Historia
For over 40 years, Art Keller has been on the front lines of America's longest conflict: the War on Drugs. His obsession to defeat the world's most powerful, wealthy, and lethal kingpin - the godfather of the Sinaloa Cartel, Adan Barrera - has left him bloody and scarred, cost him people he loves, even taken a piece of his soul. Now Keller is elevated to the highest ranks of the DEA, only to find that in destroying one monster, he has created 30 more that are wreaking even more chaos and suffering in his beloved Mexico.

Decent, not as good as his other books
Revisado: 10-07-22
It was decent, but I didn’t like it quite as much as his other books. It leaned a little too much into a political commentary for my taste.

Excellent Book!
Revisado: 04-26-17
Really gripping. I couldn't stop listening! The narrator really brought this book to life. The gruesome details were hard to stomach at times but were necessary to tell a story that reflects reality.

Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Good info, bad narration
Revisado: 10-31-15
Great info, but the narrator does not understand the need to pause between words, sentences, or even chapters. It's all just kind of quickly blended together.

Based on months spent with the battalions in Fallujah and hundreds of interviews at every level (senior policymakers, negotiators, generals, and soldiers and Marines on the front lines) No True Glory is a testament to the bravery of the American soldier and a cautionary tale about the complex, and often costly, interconnected roles of policy, politics, and battle in the twenty-first century.

A bit boring, but seems realistic
Revisado: 10-31-15
This book is a combination of the mundane, frustrating and slow-moving with episodes of the horrific and tragic. This does not make for a great story but is perhaps closer to what I imagine war would actually be like.

Historia
At 24 years of age, U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell was named commander of a forty-man elite infantry platoon - a unit that came to be known as the Outlaws - and was tasked with rooting out Pakistan-based insurgents from a mountain valley along Afghanistan's eastern frontier. Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Waste of my time
Revisado: 10-30-15
When I heard the forward by Newt Gingrich, I instantly knew I'd made a big mistake. This author took a really neat idea for a story and ruined it with right-wing fear mongering. About 7 of the 13 hours of this story were just the characters rambling on about how real the threat of an EMP attack is and how it could have been easily prevented. This book could be retitled: The Conservative Republican's View of Human Nature. In addition to this author's ridiculous agenda, the attitudes present throughout rubbed me the wrong way, like the main character referring to his beloved family dogs as idiots and justifying executions with Christian undertones. This book presents a depressingly pessimistic view of human nature. The sad part is that there was a really interesting and thought-provoking story trapped in all of this. I just wish I hadn't had to listen to the extra 7 hours or so of garbage to hear it.

Historia
A memoir of unblinking honesty and poignant, laugh-out-loud humor, Blackout is the story of a woman stumbling into a new kind of adventure - the sober life she never wanted. For Sarah Hepola, alcohol was "the gasoline of all adventure". She spent her evenings at cocktail parties and dark bars where she proudly stayed till last call. But there was a price. Publicly, she covered her shame with self-deprecating jokes, and her career flourished, but as the blackouts accumulated, she could no longer avoid a sinking truth.

Great listen
Revisado: 07-14-15
Overall, this book had some awesome insights. I don't particularly like hearing "war stories" about people's drinking days, but they are a necessary part of the story. It was a realistic view of the process of transformation someone goes through when becoming sober. I found her views on God and atheism a bit small-minded and egocentric, in that she assumes people are atheists merely because they have an intellectual understanding of the past transgressions of religion. She conflates the concept of belief in God with religion and says we are all born with a God shaped hole. But other than that, it was good.

Historia
Present moment awareness is an essential ingredient in life if one expects to experience any degree of authentic peace and contentment. It has been acknowledged for centuries as the cornerstone of spiritual awakening in all traditions of Eastern thought. In the West, however, it is still a relatively unrecognized concept for living. The Western mind is always restless, never content with the moment.
