Historia
It’s been eight years since an alien invasion drove a small surviving group of settlers to seek refuge in an underground shelter. Cut off from the rest of humanity, the ragtag band has maintained a narrowly functioning colony due to communal effort and salvage runs. Alex Archer has her own duties as a dog handler. While this off-world colony may be harsh, Ash, Alex’s black shepherd raised to sense threats, makes living in it a little nicer.

Great value for understanding the emotions of re-intergrating into society
Revisado: 01-17-25
I thought this book has great value. It provides emotional insight into what people who have lived in traumatic situations for extended periods of time experience when they re-integrate into the rest of society. The book focuses on the main characters perspective and relationships.
I would have given it more stars, but I thought it could have been more engaging. It held my interest enough to get to the end. It will appeal to people that thoroughly enjoys understanding the psyche of a person, but if you're looking for action. and intrigue, this is not your book.
It was a good book, but not what I expected.

I was captivated from beginning to end. The social dynamics and the mystery kept me hooked. The air fights were great too. Great story overall.

creepy, but gripping
Revisado: 01-30-23
I normally don't engage with psychological thrillers like this, but I found that I couldn't stop listening. Zachary Quintos did an excellent job with his role. It was believable and creepy. Great storyline. Great cast all around.

Storyline fine, but accents weak
Revisado: 10-27-22
The storyline is worth a listen. Nothing new particularly, but still engaging. I do have to say that the narrator's Russian accent is not very good. Outside of that, it was fine.

hardest book in the series to read
Revisado: 06-08-22
First, I love Travis Baldree and a narrator. It's truly an enjoyable performance because of him. I've revisited this series 2 or 3 times now. This is the hardest book to get through. The impact of misinformation (i.e. false narratives and distrust) made me cringe. It was very believable. The agony of how it impacted personal relationships was painful too.
I enjoyed the book, in part, because of this. I FELT something. Not many books make me do that.

it's not my type of book
Revisado: 10-08-21
I'm fine with dark themes. This one seems to borrow from Greek mythology and other traditions. The performance was good, but it seemed to disjointed and failed to hold my interest. It may very well be intriguing; I didn't finish it. It's a slow book in the beginning as it jumps through history. Great job with creating a world though.

Historia
How did a libertine who lacks even the most basic knowledge of the Christian faith win 81 percent of the white evangelical vote in 2016? And why have white evangelicals become a presidential reprobate's staunchest supporters? Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping account of the last 75 years of white evangelicalism, showing how American evangelicals have worked for decades to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism.

Heavy and painful look at white evangelicalism
Revisado: 02-12-21
This is a painful read in the sense that the content is heavy. It historically follows the influence of white male patriarchy within the white evangelical church from the 50's to modern day. Some of the names and actions mentioned in the pursuit to maintain Christian nationalism (white male dominance) is shocking and believable. The focus is especially on Evangelicals understanding of gender roles and the influence on American politics.

Engaging and politically relevant
Revisado: 09-11-20
I can't say too much without giving the story away. I'll just say that it was an engaging storyline and the political insight into how the media can be spun is insightful and scary. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

teaching that changes lives
Revisado: 09-07-20
I have been listening and applying this book at the same time. In the process I've changed my mindset and approach to people as a result. Instead of seeing them as leeches, people who steal my, energy, I see and approach them as people of great worth. I'm genuinely seeking to add value to their lives. As a result, I'm being transformed as a leader and person. I'm developing more credibility in my relationships across the board. Great book.

I enjoyed the story. It was something fresh for me. However, there was a great deal of language. In addition, the narrator made the story feel slow.
