Historia
Martin Walker’s novels starring Chief of Police Bruno Courrèges are a boon to Francophiles and mystery lovers around the world. In The Crowded Grave, Bruno is up to his ears in trouble after a local archaeological dig unearths a corpse with a bullet in its head. Further complicating matters are a meddlesome local magistrate, animal rights activists, and a missing professor - not to mention two lovely ladies vying for Bruno’s affections.

A Letdown
Revisado: 08-21-19
Having fallen hard for Bruno and everyone in his orbit, I was very let down by this story. I’m left with a question - did Walker’s publisher pressure him to compete the tale in a hurry, allowing weak coincidence and manipulative gimmicks to wind things up in a hurry? Or did the editor just neglect to give the author the support and direction that would have rescued the plot from its simplistic final whimpers? In either case, it seems that there was no firm hand guiding this talented writer. The abundant research, decent character development, and excellent atmospherics were permitted to collapse in a poorly thought out denouement. Putain!

Historia
It started as a student exercise, the knife under the drape, the model's pose chalked in place. But before Agatha Troy, artist and instructor, returns to the class, the pose has been re-enacted in earnest: the model is dead, fixed for ever in one of the most dramatic poses Troy has ever seen. It's a difficult case for Chief Detective Inspector Alleyn. How can he believe that the woman he loves is a murderess? And yet no one can be above suspicion.

Could Be Better
Revisado: 02-28-18
Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch mispronounces our hero’s name throughout - irritating if understandable. I think this is an abridged version - or at least it felt that way. Disappointing.
