Historia
Set in Victorian London, with characters real and imagined, The Map of Time boasts a triple play of intertwined plots in which a skeptical H. G. Wells is called upon to investigate purported incidents of time travel and to save lives and literary classics, including Dracula and The Time Machine, from being wiped from existence. What happens if we change history? Félix J. Palma explores this question, weaving a historical fantasy as imaginative as it is exciting

When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but just as alarmed. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.

So dark it makes a black hole look like Vegas
Revisado: 06-22-19
Not sure if I'm up for the next as each title gets more and more dark and perverted.
Meticulous attn to detail and character, which leads to a tedious length. This detail provides a grim enervating picture of the British working class.

About half way to the grocery it was clear that this was a poor choice. Stiff dialog delivered woodenly (think high school drama) and it sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom. NOT recommended

Catches the wiill-o'-the-wisp humor of Wodehose, which can be so overplayed in an homage.

Internationally best-selling author Lyndsay Faye became enamored with tales of Sherlock Holmes and his esteemed biographer, Dr. John Watson, as a child and later began spinning these quintessential characters into her own works of fiction - from her acclaimed debut novel, Dust and Shadow, which pitted the famous detective against Jack the Ripper, to a series of short stories for the Strand Magazine, whose predecessor published the very first Sherlock Holmes short story in 1891.

The year is 1517. Dismas is a relic hunter: one who procures "authentic" religious relics for wealthy and influential clients. His two most important patrons are Frederick the Wise, elector of Saxony; and soon-to-be Cardinal Albrecht of Mainz. While Frederick is drawn to the recent writing of Martin Luther, Albrecht pursues the financial and political benefits of religion and seeks to buy a cardinalship through the selling of indulgences.

Droll
Revisado: 05-08-18
Involving adventure story that also serves as droll satire on the state of hypocrisy in organized religion in the past and not coincidently, currently.
It will be hard to look at a Dürer work again without picturing the character that Buckley has created. Very highly recommended.

Historia
Traditionally, Americans learned in school that the ancestors of the people who inhabited the Western Hemisphere at the time of Columbus' landing had crossed the Bering Strait 12,000 years ago; existed mainly in small nomadic bands; and lived so lightly on the land that the Americas were, for all practical purposes, still a vast wilderness. But as Charles C. Mann now makes clear, archaeologists and anthropologists have spent the last 30 years proving these and many other long-held assumptions wrong.

Historia
It is 1923. Mary Russell Holmes and her husband, the retired Sherlock Holmes, are enjoying the summer together on their Sussex estate when they are visited by an old friend, Miss Dorothy Ruskin, an archeologist just returned from Palestine. She leaves in their protection an ancient manuscript which seems to hint at the possibility that Mary Magdalene was an apostle—an artifact certain to stir up a storm of biblical proportions in the Christian establishment.

Depressing
Revisado: 04-23-18
Ms King has developed memorable characters and is a lovely writer but can get carried away with her own words while waxing philosophic. There was a definite tension here in the Holmes/Russell relationship that detracted from the rather mundane plot and makes one worry about their partnership
LRK you have done much better!
Only the pirate thing in Lisbon ranks lower IMHO
Ms Sterlin is however, the perfect reader and almost makes listening to this worthwhile.

Historia
The Earl of Wrexford possesses a brilliant scientific mind, but boredom and pride lead him to reckless behavior. He does not suffer fools gladly. So when pompous, pious Reverend Josiah Holworthy publicly condemns him for debauchery, Wrexford unsheathes his rapier-sharp wit and strikes back. As their war of words escalates, London's most popular satirical cartoonist, A. J. Quill, skewers them both.

An interesting amalgam of a Sherlockian logician and Elizabeth Bennet with excellent evocation of the ambience of Regency England. The very slightest touch of Harlequin romance description keeps it from 5 stars. Recommended.
