Historia
For 2,500 years, the Celts have continued to fascinate those who have come into contact with them, yet their origins have remained a mystery and even today are the subject of heated debate among historians and archaeologists. Barry Cunliffe's classic study of the ancient Celtic world was first published in 1997. Since then, huge advances have taken place in our knowledge: new finds, new ways of using DNA records to understand Celtic origins, new ideas about the proto-urban nature of early chieftains' strongholds. All these developments are part of this fully updated edition.

Not really up to date
Revisado: 10-06-20
Barry- honestly, the chapter on indoeuropean migrations was very out of date, mentioning the Anatolian vs kurgan theories as somehow equivalent when the recent genetics studies were all in favor of the latter (didn’t get a mention)...For a second edition published in 2019, this was pretty sloppy research...

this is a computer reading this not a human
Revisado: 09-14-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
apparently this is read by 'maria chester', but it's obviously a computer not a real human being. they should make that clearer before u buy this as it makes a BIG difference
Would you ever listen to anything by Charles River Editors again?
no
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Maria Chester?
a REAL HUMAN BEING
Any additional comments?
seriously audible can u get to the bottom of this narrator..

Historia
Over the past 20 years, paleontologists have made tremendous fossil discoveries, including fossils that mark the growth of whales, manatees, and seals from land mammals and the origins of elephants, horses, and rhinos. Today there exists an amazing diversity of fossil humans, suggesting we walked upright long before we acquired large brains, and new evidence from molecules that enable scientists to decipher the tree of life as never before.

Obsessed with debating christianity.
Revisado: 06-22-16
Would you try another book from Donald R. Prothero and/or John Bishop?
No
Would you ever listen to anything by Donald R. Prothero again?
No
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
There are 1000 books debating christianity. I had hoped this book would not be about this. I wanted a legitimate book about the fossil record, about evolution -- this book is OBSESSED with debating christianity. I'm not a christian, I don't care, i wanted to learn something new about evolution, about fossils! Why the hell do i want to listen to 7 hours about how silly christianity is?
Utterly boring. I do not recommend this book.
