Historia
Even before Myristal went out, before the battle of the Heavens and the Earth broke out, before the Black General was imprisoned on the Mountain of Skulls, a wizard had wandered the endless expanses of the Nameless World in search of his past and his future. This is the legend of Ash, the Master of a Thousand Words, the Bloody General. What's true and what is fiction is up to you to decide.

Stick with it. This story ROCKS.

I am in love with this book. This is very surprising to me because I almost put it aside. I'm no wimp. I love me some raping and pillaging and death...but there was a lot of raping and pillaging that had to be endured- before *****the light***** and in reality, the author does a wonderful job at switching characters, or past to present episodes, or whatever, just before you almost had enough of the raping and pillaging. But, it was necessary. Because if we hadn't gone on that journey with Ash, we wouldn't understand him. This is an awesome story and I am so happy to have found a series with a bunch of books to go....let's hope they're all this good because I'm committed now.

Perfect fantasy
Revisado: 06-23-24
This was such a great book and I'm extremely upset that the 2nd book is not available on Audible. I swear I saw multiple books available in this series when I bought it. I don't have time to read. I wish I did! And when I find a wonderfully written, classic fantasy novel with excellent characters and great narration, it's like striking gold. Imagine my horror when I quickly tried to buy the 2nd book, only to find that it's not available on Audible. Why??? This is just fantasy sacrilege, Audible people, and needs to be addressed. Every politician should pledge to end this phenomenon because it's ruining our lives.

Annoying yet enjoyable
Revisado: 06-23-24
First and foremost, this is a Christian story. I am not religious and I don't enjoy being preached to. However, the author isn't preachy. I found myself wondering why I'm okay with all the mythological gods in fantasy novels but not okay with the Christian mythology in this book? What is the difference? After realizing this, I enjoyed the story- for a time. I kept thinking that the main character would be rewarded for his sacrifices and achievements. He is constantly subjugated throughout the story but I knew, just KNEW, that it would all be worth it in the end because that's the whole point of this genre imo! I love the heroic deeds of an underdog, especially when other characters are made to respect them. This never happens and the reader/listener has to suffer along with the protagonist over and over. We bite our tongues and suffer in silence. Maybe this is a Christian thing? I have no idea; I just know I don't like it. I felt extremely annoyed at the end of the story and somewhat deflated. I'm not sorry I listened though...

I will echo another: great f***in book
Revisado: 03-07-24
I'm an avid fantasy fan. I've read and listened to everything. Like over 800 audible books in the fantasy genre. This was a f***king amazing story. Was that Simon Vance? I think so. Did a great job. But it's the writing. THE WRITING, that makes this experience so delightful. This is one of those world immersing, all encompassing epic fantasy stories. I usually run around all day, do chores, paint, and deal with my family while listening to an audible book. Not this one. Had to sit down and relax and just listen, sometimes before bed time so I could have amazing dreams as a result of this book. THATS how good it is.

amazing dialog, amazing writing, perfect narrator
Revisado: 12-06-23
I'm not a writer and I'm too lazy to leave reviews. I can't be bothered UNLESS I happen upon the rare, perfect Audible listen. Usually, when the writing is this good, I want to read the words, not hear them. But this writing is so damn good and the narration is so damn perfect that I set my sleep timer each night so I can fall asleep listening in bliss- only to rewind again come morning. I listen to this genre specifically so I know it well. This book satisfies all my wants and needs for a fantasy novel. A quest- check. A witty, self-efacing anti-hero with some swagger- check. Magic- check. A good bit of violence- check check!
only problem with this book is waiting for a second- which will be tortuous.

Historia
Aram thinks he’s nothing but a misfit from a small fishing village in a dark corner of the world. As far as Aram knows, he has nothing, with hardly a possession to his name other than a desire to make friends and be accepted by those around him, which is something he’s never known. But Aram is more. Much, much more. Unknown to him, Aram bears within him a gift so old and rare that many people would kill him for it, and there are others who would twist him to use for their own sinister purposes.

loved it!
Revisado: 12-25-22
I listen to fantasy almost exclusively because it's my form of escapism. I can escape to worlds that value honor and bravery and that usually have a pretty clear "evil" to be vanquished. Hey, this is my coping mechanism. I'm not looking for incredible depth here. This story ticks all the boxes while being exciting and thoroughly enjoyable at the same time. The main character is "neurodivergent", or whatever term the kids are using these days. This was a pleasant surprise without being "in your face" about it. Another character is alluded to as gay, although very briefly. Again, not in your face or harped upon in any way. It's simply a casual fact and no one gets their knickers in a bunch about it. I'm GenX and it's true that my generation is learning how to be better with all this stuff, or so my daughter tells me. The pendulum of social justice sometimes swings in a pretty steep arc in my opinion and this can be tiring. This book gets it right. None of this is glaringly out of sync with this excellent story. I'm only pointing it out because of the fact that it was done so well.

Historia
Ascending to the leadership role of US Attorney for the Southern District, which includes Manhattan and several counties to the north, is a capstone to any legal career: it entails guiding a team of the best lawyers in America in selecting and winning cases that often have global import. Geoffrey Berman was honored to be tapped for the job by Donald Trump in 2018. The manner in which Trump had dispatched his predecessor Preet Bharara was troubling, but the institution was fabled for its independence. Surely he could manage.

Very important book
Revisado: 10-24-22
This is the single most important book about the Trump Administration and the Department of Justice under Trump.
I'm sure this book will be required reading if our country ever recovers from the intense polarization and politicization of the historically non-partisan institutions that are the backbone of our democracy.
