Historia
Johannes Cabal, a necromancer of some little infamy, has come into possession of a vital clue that may lead him to his ultimate goal: a cure for death. The path is vague, however, and certainly treacherous as it takes him into strange territories that, quite literally, no one has ever seen before. The task is too dangerous to venture upon alone, so he must seek assistance - comrades for the coming travails.

I have a personal vendetta w this author
Revisado: 05-06-21
please....please.,..these are my favorite series. I’ve read each book at least three times. I BOUGHT THEM Legally!!!!!!! LEGALLY.
You can tell this author was a screenwriter. The characters feel alive and the actions are funny and I feel like I can physically picture everything they do. A lot of irreverent authors are real boys club members. The sexy Bond character who’s always funny and can save the day every time then gets the lady. Howard subverts the trope and over the five books you watch as Cabal becomes human again. My only complaint the whole series has been the lack of women but Howard really delivered in the fall of cabal. These books are so dear to my heart.
I need more:( I’ve read the novella. And I’m sad :( that his misadventures have ended.

This is the best audiobook I’ve ever listened to. The accents and voice inflections were so real and captivating. The story is wonderful too🌸

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

I absolutely adored Gideons vulgar language and her juvenile way of viewing the world. She is crass, sincere, curious, and headstrong. I didn’t notice the slow plot development because I thoroughly enjoyed the characterization. I know this was on purpose but Harrow was unbearable in the beginning. I hated her sm she was so mean that I couldn’t even suspend my judgment until we learned more about her. This was a fun read and I recommend this to anyone who loves John Wick or Deadpool.

Worlds greatest assassin?????
Revisado: 07-06-20
Alright so I don’t even mind the cheesy romance. I knew what I was getting myself into. It’s a little silly YA that I put on while I clean or fold laundry. The male leads were fine. Maas created a nice world as well. I have a big issue with the “worlds greatest assassin” tittle given to our heroine. Another comment already mentioned this but why does she keep letting people sneak up on her???? Why does she get frightened or ill at the sight of death?????? Why does she have a big moral compass???? Like her whole job relies on the opposite of those things!!!!! Additionally, for a government that relies so heavily on slavery, I find it odd that there are no ethnic or “us vs them” prejudices. I suppose magical people count. Like the oppression is even whitewashed. Who becomes slaves? Just criminals? That’s a minuet portion of the populous. A more generally diverse group of characters would have been nice, across age, race, and attractiveness. Literally I was so bored of hearing “this white girl was beautiful and wore a frilly dress”. Her maid should have gotten more characterization. Idk this is Maas’s earlier works perhaps the demographics of the characters will change as she explores the magic aspect of the series more. But I think I’ll keep reading the next books as long as I don’t find any other works more captivating. Narration was great tho :-)

World building or waste of time?
Revisado: 07-05-20
So there was a good chunk of this book I adored. I loved that our main character was conventionally attractive and put effort into her appearance. I feel like YA often tries to make the “bland looking girl” get pursued by the super hot and aloof guy which is fine but tiring after awhile. Bryce was a bit too mean in the beginning even though she had good reason. That being said this book made me cry multiple times! I also enjoyed the swearing because that’s how modern 20 something year olds talk under stress. The world was awesome it’s difficult to make a modern fantasy world. But I think she did it effectively. It is obvious Maas is a seasoned author because the world building was amazing. But the middle of the book was hard to get through because the mystery of the murder keeps leading to additional dead-ends and it’s frustrating. However, I think it offered imperative world building for the end and the rest of the series. SPOILER: The fight scenes were dope! I like the long descriptions. It was cool that the girl that so many wanted to protect was the one who saved them all.
