So many mispronunciations
Revisado: 06-13-22
This is a fascinating case but didn’t anyone check the pronunciation? A major source of distraction and I can’t believe Mr.Peterson was happy with this!

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

A whopper of a good book!
Revisado: 08-06-20
I loved everything about this book. Anne Patchett’s writing is extraordinary she manages to weave through different timelines seamlessly and her analogies and comparisons are spot on. Tom Hanks was a fantastic narrator giving voice to different characters without forcing an artificial pitch or tempo. Considering that this was a book written by a woman from the point of view of a man, it was quite a feat and wholly believable.. I highly highly recommend it

Paints Quite a Picture !
Revisado: 05-28-18
This was a fantastic read. The imagery was so detailed - sometimes beautiful, sometimes horrible, but always vivid. Wildflower's love for her Daddy was heart wrenchingly real. The bully Johnny Monroe stirred hatred and fear. His lasting impact on Louisa May's life is bitter sweet. I am delighted to see there is a next in this series, and it is already on my wish list. My only comment for improvement regards the narration - it was painfully slow. I had to listen at 1.25% speed to have it sound "normal" for me. Thanks, Susan Gabriel, for a great read that sketches an inviting picture of family life in early 20th century Appalachia.

Very touching story of the Outer Banks
Revisado: 05-02-18
I live on the Outer Banks and am a praying woman myself so this book resonated with me. The ending was unexpected and touched my heart. Going to recommend this book to many of the people I know on these beautiful islands

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Great story, poor narrator
Revisado: 09-01-17
Nice procedural mystery as expected from Michael Connelly, however the choice of narrator was disappointing. She ignored punctuation marks here and there, distracting me from the ongoing narration until I figured out what was actually intended, and she mispronounced words throughout including bureaucracy which came out each time as brarocacy. If this character reappears in future novels, I hope a different narrator is chosen.

Do your research!
Revisado: 06-16-16
This would be a good plot in a more skillful writer's hands. The mystery of Shelly's mom intrigued me. For narration, it would be a good idea to check correct pronunciation of location names, such as Rodanthe and Corolla. One quick call to any business owner, realtor or the like could have avoided these annoying mistakes. The word 'the' is pronounced with a long e when followed by a word that begins with a vowel. And locals say "on the Outer Banks", not "in the Outer Banks" - These errors distracts me throughout. Where was the director for this production?

She's no Ron McLarty!
Revisado: 10-27-09
Amy Tan has a good and timely story to tell. It's just too bad she told it in her own voice. A good agent, manager, publisher or even friend should have told her that her gift is writing, not narrating. Not everyone can be a whiz at both - like Ron McLarty!!!
