Historia
Saoirse Sorkova survives on lies. As a soldier-in-training at the most prestigious barracks in the kingdom, she lies about being a siren to avoid execution. At night, working as an assassin for a dangerous group of mercenaries, Saoirse lies about her true identity. And to her family, Saoirse tells the biggest lie of all: that she can control her siren powers and doesn’t struggle constantly against an impulse to kill.

Big Themes Powerful Characters
Revisado: 05-30-24
Gabi Burton did an excellent job with this debut novel. The world she created was beautiful, fantastic and cohesive. Her characters were strong and nuanced. I can’t wait for the second novel.

Historia
Sydney Green is Brooklyn born and raised, but her beloved neighborhood seems to change every time she blinks. Condos are sprouting like weeds, FOR SALE signs are popping up overnight, and the neighbors she’s known all her life are disappearing. To hold onto her community’s past and present, Sydney channels her frustration into a walking tour and finds an unlikely and unwanted assistant in one of the new arrivals to the block - her neighbor, Theo. But Sydney and Theo’s deep dive into history quickly becomes a dizzying descent into paranoia and fear.

Brilliant Concept, Solid Execution
Revisado: 02-24-23
Review Summary: Read the book. It’s really good.
Let me start the text of my review by saying I am really picky and extraordinarily critical when it comes to reading books. I will quickly give up on a book if I feel like it’s a waste of time. That being said not only did I finish Cole’s book but Iost sleep doing it.
My one criticism is that the main drama took so long to reveal itself, I was growing impatient. Also the characters were frustrating me with their challenges believing their eyes and themselves.
However when the drama hits, it is a roller coaster ride to the finish. I enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to others.
