Enthralling! Another Great Longmire Audiobook
Revisado: 06-09-13
What did you love best about Another Man's Moccasins?
How it interweaved Walt's past with his present and show another side of him that, for me, hadn't been represented in the audiobooks I have listened to so far. I was not disappointed!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Helllllllooooo! Have you read any of these books? Yes, it kept me riveted, wondering, laughing my head off and entertained. Nothing new, just grateful for.
Which scene was your favorite?
I rarely can select or pinpoint any one scene as a favorite, but I really enjoyed the flashbacks, they gave me a different take on Walt and helped me to better understand how he came to be the man he now is; no less determined and still a smart***. I always enjoy the banter Walt and Bear share, but that goes for Vic and the rest as well. Singularly I'm not sure how the book would fare, but collectively, it never misses!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
LIKING the entire book to the point that I am compelled to write a review is an extreme reaction for me.
Any additional comments?
Get it! You can't miss with this one either and as with the others, you will laugh out loud in the best possible way.

Exceeded My Expectations
Revisado: 06-09-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely recommend this audiobook! I'm late to the Walt Longmire books genre, but I'm glad that, having seen the television series, it spurred my interest and I am not disappointed! It revels in hilarity, tension, suspense, unexpected twists and turns, and I too have fallen in love with Henry Standing Bear, he and Walt are absolutely gems together.
It's so easy to get pulled into the story and feel at home and at once emerged with a strong sense of the place and the people and find yourself someone welcomed to join in and ride along with the staff and the townsfolk. It felt natural from start to finish.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's hard to select just one, they are all so well crafted, defined and acted out, that selecting just one is an insult to the wonderful characterizations Craig Johnson has so deftly created. Nope, can't choose just one. They are all fabulous and I can't imagine any of the Longmire storylines without them. I only WISH they were as beautifully defined in the television series as they are in the books.
But I will say this regarding the television series, Lou Diamond is a very good actor, but he ain't no Henry Standing Bear according to the Johnson characterization that plays out in my imagination...
What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?
George is da man in this series! He is spot on! I hadn't had the pleasure of his voice in my ears before, but the man is singularly a standout narrator. He is pepper to Johnson's salt. They just go together so well!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The book moved me from start to finish. I grew up on westerns, my folks were addicts and so this is reminiscent, in so many ways, of characters created by James Stewart, Chuck Conners, Ward Bond, James Garner and Charles Bronson, 'Festus' and just a touch of Ma and Pa Kettle thrown in for good measure LOLOL. IMHO, this is major league and I'm hooked. Unequivocally so.
Any additional comments?
GET IT! GET THEM ALL! You can't go wrong and I'll be surprised if anyone doesn't find them as great as I do.

Historia
A high-profile attorney in the middle of a leave of absence following a personal tragedy is drawn back into the legal arena amidst a media firestorm when he agrees to represent a popular rap artist accused of brutally murdering his pop star girlfriend. With its powerful voice, pause-resisting tension, and strong cast of characters, Adam Mitzner’s novels are reminiscent of such best-selling authors as Scott Turow and John Grisham.

Predictable

Where does A Case of Redemption rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Average. Overall, it was fair, but about the only thing that probably surprised me was that Nuts(?) was the one in the photo, other than that, the betrayal and the actual motivation, murderer and outcome were, IMHO, predictable. Some books that stretched me are older and they include Presumed Innocent, Child 44, The Lincoln Lawyer to name a few, this book fell far below them in comparison.
Would you be willing to try another book from Adam Mitzner? Why or why not?
Yes, but depends on the overall storyline.
Have you listened to any of Kevin T. Collins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but his portrayals were very good and enhanced a lot of what took place in the story, which is why I gave the overall score of 4, his performance helped that a lot.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Nothing. Just a read to occupy time, it didn't tug at anything or create any heartfelt emotion noteworthy.
Any additional comments?
Some people will find this book a great read, and we all come with different expectations and so just because it did nothing for me doesn't mean the next person will agree with what I got, but that's the point of reading/listening for oneself.

Larry Ott and Silas “32” Jones were unlikely boyhood friends. Larry was the child of lower middle-class white parents, Silas the son of a poor, single, black mother - their worlds as different as night and day. Yet a special bond developed between them in Chabot, Mississippi. But within a few years, tragedy struck. In high school, a girl who lived up the road from Larry had gone to the drive-in movie with him and nobody had seen her again.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
As an AA female it got a bit tiresome having to hear the lovely and expressive "N" word said so many times and with such fervor to help me understand the true nature of the natives and their mindsets in this story at a time in our history when blacks were not houseguests normally received with opened arms.
I was born in Mississippi and spent many summers at my grandparents on one of their farms and was sheltered from the brutality and inhumanity that pervaded the south in my youth as I grew up in Illinois. However, in all truthfulness, I personally never actually experienced the racism that is well documented having occurred in Ole Miss, I received most of my lessons in Illinois. I knew it existed and that it was explosively dangerous, the news was very informative in this regard. My sole experience with it there came when a bunch of us kids were ushered to a back entrance at a movie theater and 'made' to sit in the balcony. It was cool to me, I always sat in the balcony at home anyway, but entering through the back was a bit creepy.
I didn't think that racism put Mississippi on the map, Elvis did that, so at 59, listening to this book is a grim reminder of just how far we truly have not advanced. We've made some progress, no doubt, but it left me unmoved. I say this because my great-grandmother was Caucasian and married to my great-grandfather, a black man, in a state that hung folks on trees like freshly washed laundry; this book didn't surprise me at all. I knew early on where it was going...
I think this book could have really delved deeper into interpersonal relationships, both interracial and intraracial ones, more substantially. It could've depicted stronger how daily life was for biracial persons trying to live innocuously between two worlds at differing points in time. It could've given a more realistic perspective of how crime really was handled by small town sheriffs and their deputies and how the law and the white citizens dealt with their 'perceived' notions regarding black on white crime then. The book touched on aspects of it, but what if it had gone deeper, more bolder and challenged 'US' in the now?
I was just hoping for so much more. I was sorely disappointed and this book left me u-n-i-m-p-r-e-crooked letter-crooked letter-e-d.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
A bit late to wonder on this point now isn't it?
What about Kevin Kenerly’s performance did you like?
The performance was very well done.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Nope.
Any additional comments?
I will not recommend it.
