I LOVED THIS BOOK! It was an amazing follow-up to Voodoo Academy! It picked up basically where it left off. The characters are amazing and so is the storyline!

I absolutely could not get into this book no matter how hard I tried. I really try not to leave negative reviews but I generally found the characters unlikable.

Where’s the romance

I really liked this RH book. It's full of shifter wolves which is always a plus! The plot moves fast and I did struggle to keep up with some of it. I wish there would have been more romance between the characters and it didn't feel so rushed, it seemed more like a subplot. I did like the character dynamics and how they interacted with each other. All in all, I'm glad I read the book - just wish there was more romance.

Who do, Voodoo!

Voodoo Academy by Theophilus Monroe has been my favorite book by them so far. The story starts with Paranormal Investigators Annabelle and Ashley, who are sisters, driving around New Orleans. Ashley is passed out drunk in the passenger seat and Annabelle accidentally hits someone who jumped in front of her car. Her soul-bound spirit partner, Isabelle, says he is a "sort of human." They get out and find out he is a Loa - a voodoo spirit named Kalfu. He ends up leaving the boy's body and enters Ashley's body and possesses her. He tries to make a bargain with Annabelle for her sister but is ultimately stopped by Auggie. Who is revealed to also be a Loa but a good one? He's also a teacher at a local Voodoo Academy. He invites Annabelle to attend but does not extend the invitation to Ashley, staying if he has room during the next semester he will invite her as well. Isabelle and Annabelle come to the mutual decision to attend the school - while Ashley is off to the reservation with her boyfriend, Roger, to become a Shaman. Annabelle learns the school is underground, under a huge cathedral. Her classes begin and everyone starts to notice her abilities, especially that she can create portals to the Loa world. Will Annabelle be able to wield her and Isabelles' powers? Will she be able to fight off Kalfu who is bent on revenge? You for sure want to pick this one up! It's a great start to a series!

Better than the First

3.5 Stars for Nanoswarm by Theophilus Monroehe. The world-building in this second book is much better than the first. The plot is well thought out and captivating. The character's back histories are complex and interesting. I did prefer this one to Algorithm, the first book in the series. Once again another interesting book by Theophilus Monroehe!

Right to Business

A solid 5 stars for Multi-Orgasmic Vol 3 by Lucy Felthouse. It's a collection of 16 short stories (maybe about 25 minutes long each) that cover a wide variety of situations and kinks. The stories are well written and get right to the point pretty quickly. They're just the right amount of kink and listening to it on Audiobook was even better. If you're looking for something that gets right down to business you'll for sure want to pick this one up.

Short and Steamy

3.5 Stars. The Next Big Thing by Lucy Felthouse is a short light erotic romance. Katarina, who writes under a pen name, is an author who just released an expected best-seller which is the equivalent of 50 Shades of Gray. She ends up going to a bookstore on release day to pick up a copy of her book and runs into the charming Elija who is also there to purchase her book. Of course, he doesn't realize it's actually HER book since she writes under a pen name and introduces herself by her given name. The two strike up a conversation in line and end up going out for drinks after. A month goes by and they have been hooking up. One night Katarina gets an email from her publisher that they are expecting book 2. She immediately starts writing where she left off in her lovers' story. She doesn't realize Elija is behind her and has been reading what she's writing. He is taken aback because Katarina has always been very vanilla, unlike the smut books she writes. To help her write out Book 2, Elija suggests they start trying new things in bed for her to incorporate into her book, eventually leading her to a BDSM club and public sex. Overall it was a steamy story but I ultimately wish it would have been longer.

True Blood Meets Anne Rice

All in all, I have to give this book 4 stars! Bloody Mad is the 2nd book in "The Legacy of the Vampire Witch" by Theophilus Monroe. Mercy Brown is both a centuries-old vampire and a witch. After the events in the last book, where her brother is now living in her mind, she is sent to an asylum. She had drunk blood from a person who was possessed by a demon, which is poisonous to vampires. After this happened she lost control of herself and her brother took over and killed multiple innocent people in horrific ways in the French Quarter. This is what landed her in the Vilokan Asylum for the Magically and Mentally Deranged with a dangerous collar around her neck. Dr. Cain doesn't believe her when she tells him she hears her brother's voice and disregards her. We meet an interesting transgender character named Nyx, who is a water elemental that is stuck in human form after trying to eat an infected human. Three werewolves are brought in and after an escape attempt by Mercy, they transform and wreak havoc on the asylum. Nyx and Mercy try to fight them off and end up in a cell with a dead one - a 4th werewolf. Mercy deduces that someone on the staff must have helped them escape and must also be a werewolf because only three had been brought in. It turns out it was Dr. Cain - who is the same biblical Cain from the story of Cain and Abel. Mercy is given a grimoire with a spell that can bring someone back from the dead and who does she choose - Mal. It was Mal's grimoire after all. All in all, I was very impressed with this book and actually preferred it to the first one. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Anne Rice Meets True Blood

Bloody Hell is the 1st book in the "Legacy of the Vampire Witch" series by Theophilus Monroe. To me, it felt like modern Anne Rice meets True Blood and I absolutely loved it! The story opens with Mercy dying of consumption. Mal (a witch) comes to her and offers to cure her. They perform a ritual on Samhain that would save her within 3 months. Mercy is visited by the first Vampire, Niko, and turned. Her blood craving was so strong she started feeding off her younger brother. Her father, in turn, tries to kill her but is unsuccessful due to Mal removing her brother's heart and burning it - sending him to hell and also making Mercy unkillable. The caveat - if her brother manages to return or his soul is sent to heaven, Mercy will die a true death. Niko takes Mercy under his wing along with her semi romance interest, Ramon - who is also sired by Niko. The whole story revolves around them trying to stop the Order of the Morning Dawn, a group that wants to destroy vampires and witches, which Mercy is both. Mercy isn't ready to meet her real death and she will do everything to ensure that doesn't happen.

Fell A Little Short for Me

Algorithm is the first book in dystopian, sci-fi, thriller series - Nanoverse. We're introduced to Brian who is an ex-soldier who experiences PTSD. In the span of several hours, 15 terrorist attacks take place. The Nanovax (nanobots that literally swim in your blood) was created to end death and disease and heal people but things take a different turn. The military has different plans for the Nanovax - they're predicting human behaviors and finding out who the "bad guys" are before they can do anything. They tell the public that they are using the tech to track terrorists using an algorithm. During a PTSD episode, Brian is thought to be a terrorist because of how the Nanos are interpreting his behavior. All in all, it's not a book I would typically pick for myself to read but I really did enjoy it and can't wait to read the second one!
