Football Romance.
Revisado: 03-02-25
I so love a friends to lovers romance, Lauren Blakely is the master of writing these type of books. She has the knack of balancing the banter to flirting to wit and adding in a dash of angst. Most Valuable Playboy is special because of these reasons but also it is set in one of my favourite cities - San Francisco - and with Lauren's descriptions, I felt like I was back there again.
Let me tell you about Coop! Cooper Armstrong is a mans man, who is very career orientated being a quarterback, and committed only to football. He is loyal, dedicated and extremely dependable. He has a small group of friends that he would do anything for, and vice versa. It's funny when you don't know what you're missing, until it is right under your nose. Violet Pierson is not only a close friend, but she is also Coop's best friends little sister. They already have a special bond growing up together, but when having to pretend to be a couple, this brings out Cooper's lovable side. The flirting is so exquisite I couldn't put this one down. Violet has her own business and is a very independent woman, but when she is with Coop, she is putty in his hands. I loved this couple and also enjoyed the banter between the players. Another mentionable component to this novel is the sports aspect. It was so interesting to get a behind the scenes insight to American football.
This edition has been re released with an updated audiobook that I loved listening to. LB has taken the time to bring this amazing book to another level with the changes and the narrators being Jason Clarke and Andi Arndt did a brilliant job with these characters. This is definitely one for all Lauren Blakely fans, but also for all lovers of rom-coms. Highly recommend it.

Another Winner Hockey Romance
Revisado: 01-17-25
Hockey romances are the big rage at the moment, but this book was so much more than that. LB can create a character that you would love to meet and hang out with in a world that’s inclusive and so welcoming you’d never want to leave. Not everything is perfect though, and that’s true to life as we all have insecurities or vulnerability to some degree and even experience stress anxiety. The biggest thing I adore about her characters are the way they are loyal and supportive whether it’s as a couple or in a friend group environment. This is why I will always come back to read a LB novel. I fall into her books with anticipation of what’s going to happen and walk away with a huge smile on my face.
Asher and Maeve had both grown up with adversity that has shaped them in their adult lives, although they still had some things to overcome. Luckily they have each other and friends for guidance and encouragement. Which they will need after a quick wedding in Vegas, as you do! Things could spiral out of control if they aren’t careful.
Another huge bonus with a LB publication is her audio books. She is meticulous on getting the right narrator for each of her characters and she hit the jackpot with Robert Hatchet and Vanessa Edwin. Both were spot on for depicting their roles and it was a dream to listen to.

Kerri Russell is an absolute legend!
Revisado: 11-21-24
This was a great episode to listen to on my road trip. I was snorting and smiling the whole hour. I have loved Kerri Russell’s work way back with Felicity and I was so intrigued about The Diplomat from this podcast I binged watch both seasons when I got home! That season finale 😳🤯👍🏼 amazing. Just like these podcast are, it’s my favorite to listen to.

Don’t Miss This One
Revisado: 08-22-24
I had so much fun listening to this book! Not only did it have a great story but the narration was brilliant, both did their characters justice and made the book even better. I was smirking, laughing and snorting through most of the book. Everly and Hardy were friends on a mission and this had hilarious moments but also strengthened their bond. She had had a crush on Hardy for a long time but it takes him longer and some angst to realize what was in front of him all along. I loved the way Hardy treats all his friends but when he has his sights set on Everly, he was sweet and super spicy with a wicked dirty mouth. Everly was the kind of gal you would want to be friends with. She was sassy and smart with the best banter with Hardy. Looking forward to anymore books that come with this series.

Of all the things that could have landed in her yard, it had to be him. For most people, finding a half-naked superbeing in their yard might be a dream come true. Unfortunately for Gracie Castro, it’s the exact opposite. Especially when he’s grouchy, rude, and shows no signs of leaving anytime soon. But when a hero of mankind needs you, you do what you have to. Even if it compromises everything you know. And totally changes your life.

Connor Crais Was Perfect For This Audio
Revisado: 12-02-23
This is a little different to what MZ writes but then again it’s not. It might be in the fantasy realm but it’s also her trademark slow burn romance. Gracie and Alex are similar in some respects but come from extreme backgrounds. She’s hiding from the bad guys and he’s hiding from the world. It takes an extreme power to have them meet and battle to get Gracie safe. It’s not smooth and they bicker with funny banter constantly but it’s what makes them both fall for the other, along with caring for each other. It’s a great story and made perfect with Connor voicing all Alex’s lines - couldn’t think of anyone doing a better job bringing The Defender to life.

Hockey Romance.
Revisado: 03-02-23
I love it when I pick up a book and it flows so well I don’t even know what time it is or how far along I am in the book. The next thing you know, I’m nearly finished and my family is expecting dinner. Oh well…it was a little late today. And it’s made so much better when listening to a book especially when done well like this one. Stephen Dexter and Mackenzie Cartwright did a brilliant job bringing Cannon and Ava to life.
These books are like episodes in a tv series where each character from the team is getting their own story told. In this edition, it’s the head coach Cannon who’s only been with the team a short time. He used to play hockey, but stepped away to care for his terminally ill wife. Now he is back, and is the youngest coach in the league, and he’s ecstatic to get them all the way to the cup. First things first though, he needs his coffee every morning. Or maybe it’s that he needs to see a certain barista to start his day off right. A little flirting and good coffee, what more could he want.
It was fun watching this couple develop. They took things slow and didn’t place unnecessary expectations on each other. They made the most of the limited time they had together. Just so happens, the more time they did, the more they got to know each other, the more they made time to be together. But it gets confusing when lines are crossed and what started out as good times, now feelings are involved and it’s going into murky territory. There is a little age gap between them, which seems to be the norm nowadays with romances, and they solve their problems maturely and without the silly dramatics.
It was also exciting to read about Hendrix, who’s book is up next and I feel there will be at least one more after that. Maybe Bain will get to tell his story. My fingers are crossed we get loads more from this team.

After I made the decision to divorce, my ex-wife set out on a smear campaign against me, telling anyone who would listen that I was betting on hockey and throwing games. It wasn’t surprising that my ex told the lies, but the fact that the media, league, and fans chose to believe her baseless claims was unforgivable. I walked away from it all and never looked back.

Drake and Brienne.
Revisado: 01-09-23
We are up to book number five in the series and I’m still enjoying each of these couples stories and HEA’s. There hasn’t been much said about Drake McGinn in the previous books just that he was burnt by the organization as well as his ex wife and he is a little or more so he’s a lot bitter about it all because he left the league to raise his three sons. The new owner of the Titans, Brienne Norcross knows that the best chance she has of winning a Cup in her brother’s honor is to build the most amazing team possible and that includes goalie Drake. So she needs to eat humble pie over a question she asked him that did not sit well with Drake. These two are fiery and sparks fly left, right and center!
Their interactions start out as just a hook up, nothing but dirty talking, fast and steamy times and that’s all they both want. No relationship, only bedroom buddies when the time permits with their busy schedules. As always, the more time they spend together, feelings get involved and now it’s getting intense between them. It takes some time to navigate running an empire, playing professional hockey and raising three boys but they do eventually realize they are better together than apart. Whether you read it as part of the series, or as a standalone novel, it’s one not to be missed.
As is with most audio books, the story is so much better because it feels like it’s come to life. Aiden Snow was the perfect choice for Drake, he got the gruff and domination emotions right just. Same goes for Maxine Mitchell - she had a great business voice but also could switch it up with secondary characters or more emotional scenes. I couldn’t stop listening.

Exactly What I Needed!
Revisado: 11-02-22
There is nothing better than grabbing a book on a cold, rainy day and just falling into the story especially with audio as well. Jana Aston has the perfect balance of wit to vulnerability to a fun storyline. This novella is quick but it was just the right thing I needed to read and listen to today. It made me laugh and smirk right along with Liberty with her sass and quirks. Erin Mallon depicts Liberty and her emotions so well. The antics both Liberty and Mason go to, which is the best flirting, had me giggling. I’m walking away wanting more from this couple, which is proof that good things come in small books too. If this cover doesn’t draw you in, which is stunning! then let me assure you that this is one you won’t want to miss listening to.

Great Story and Performance.
Revisado: 09-30-22
I knew this story was going to be amazing in audio, and I felt both narrators did a fabulous job. Aaron Shedlock was a perfect Coen, just how I imaged he’d sound and act. Even his other character voices were done well. Lucy Rivers too was how I had Tilly in my head..although I wasn’t a fan of her second characters. I much prefer the duet style of narration but this performance was pretty excellent.
Oh Coen…Coen…Coen. I knew I was going to love this story from book one. There’s something about a hero who is bitter and twisted and needing solace either from his team mates or an incredible woman that I can’t put down. I also adore having a hero that this now gives him plenty of growth and self reflection.
Coen is one of the “lucky three” in that for injuries or illness stopped them getting on the plane that fateful night. Survivors guilt and other issues had been tormenting Coen since and he’s been spiraling out of control. Now suspended, he’s removed himself from the city and hiding out at Stone’s cabin. Was he expecting to find a friend with his neighbor - no way, but she’s got qualities that have him wanting to be around her all the time.
Tillie is completely opposite to what Coen would have dated or spent time with. They even have totally different upbringings but maybe that’s why she intrigued him so much. Or maybe it had to do with her calming compassion that had him letting go of the past. For me, what made me cherish their tale was their banter and antics. She might not have the worldly experience he had, but she gave as good as she got.
There is a certain amount of angst with this book, Coen had to deal with a few demons and I loved that it wasn’t overdramatized. His dilemmas weren’t easy to overcome and at times he was an outright jerk, but underneath you could see his true self was still there. Tillie didn’t just bring out the best of Coen, she showed him to trust his instincts and his team. He was more loyal and dependable than he gave himself credit for. I absolutely loved this couple and story.
