Crucifixion, the Romans believed, was the worst fate imaginable, a punishment reserved for slaves. How astonishing it was, then, that people should have come to believe that one particular victim of crucifixion - an obscure provincial by the name of Jesus - was to be worshipped as a god. Dominion explores the implications of this shocking conviction as they have reverberated throughout history.

Boldness
Revisado: 04-10-24
The ease at which TH connected such vast time periods into a clear, entertaining and convincing historical narrative was hardcore Holland and him at his absolute best. I loved it, every moment was filled with relevant information that had me never wanting it to end. This review is “my truth,” take it or leave it.

Poignant
Revisado: 07-20-17
For me, a white male conservative, I found the book to be fantastic. Thought provoking, logical, and thoughtful. I'd like to see a Professor West lecturer in person. Even with different economic opinions I though his ideas on race are very poignant in today's world.

Historia
At the close of World War I, Hitler was an impoverished young artist who scrapped by through selling souvenir paintings, but within a few years, his powerful oratory brought him to the forefront of the Nazi party in Munich and helped make the party much more popular. A smattering of followers in the hundreds quickly became a party of thousands. At the head of it all was a man whose fiery orations denounced Jews, communists, and other "traitors" for bringing upon the German nation the Treaty of Versailles, which had led to hyperinflation and a wrecked economy.

If you know anything about nazi Germany this book will be a complete bore. It reads like a 7th grade text book with almost no critical thought by the author leaving it dry and uninteresting.

Dr. Jamison is one of the foremost authorities on manic-depressive (bipolar) illness; she has also experienced it firsthand. For even while she was pursuing her career in academic medicine, Jamison found herself succumbing to the same exhilarating highs and catastrophic depressions that afflicted many of her patients, as her disorder launched her into ruinous spending sprees, episodes of violence, and an attempted suicide.

I suffer from BP, and this book perfectly articulated my feelings in a way I never could. I wish I could hug the author and tell her thank you thank you thank you.

The liberal and the conservative. The deal - making arm twister and the cool communicator. The Texas rancher and the Hollywood star. Opposites in politics and style, Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan shared a defining impulse: to set forth a grand story of America, a story in which he could be the hero. In the tumultuous days after the Kennedy assassination, Johnson and Reagan each, in turn, seized the chance to offer the country a new vision for the future.

Good Read
Revisado: 08-08-16
I really like the intricacies of the LBJ White House but far too much of the book is devoted to JFK. JFK and LBJ should be on the cover but very entertaining nonetheless.
