I had Fae fatigue for the last few years and the title sounded similar to the Red Queen series(which i hated),so I didn't want to try this one when i first came across it. I was absolutely wrong. This is by far the best Faery series I've read. Way better than the Iron King for example. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Absolutely loved it. Jennette McCurdy really is a great writer and paints beautiful scenes. It's darkly humorous and impossible to put down. I couldn't relate to everything that she went through, but I did relate to far more than anyone should have to the trauma of McCurdy's past.

The title is like the conclusion of an argument. Somehow this woman takes us on a journey of self discovery, coming of age, healing, character development that leads her, and us as readers, to the realization that she is glad her mom is gone.
It's persuasive for those who were initially against her title statement and so, so validating for those of us that can say, "Girl, same."

This has beat Trevor Noah's Born a Crime, as the best celebrity memoir I've ever read.

10/10 will read again soon.

completely sucked in, adored the writing and performance. slightly annoyed at the very obvious misunderstanding that could have easily been cleared up in a couple seconds of conversation. then absolutely furious about the little plot twist the author decided to completely ruin the entire story for me with. not a romance it's a tragedy.

I skipped ahead to where the ridiculous "misunderstanding" was solved and I enjoyed the book. I honestly didn't feel like I really missed anything and I didn't have to suffer through all the b.s. lies about something the guy could have very easily explained to the girl in two minutes so she wouldn't hate him. So the story obviously is flawed if I can go from ch. 12 to 34 without confusion.

Overall the story is very creative with excellent worldbuilding and interesting magic, but the main plot doesn't make sense and the subplot isn't satisfying enough to keep reading the series.

The story starts out by letting you know all the rules of the world which bothered me. It was the character in her mind telling us all we needed to know about the entire world in the first 10 min. BUT somehow the book still dragged for hours before Mare was finally taken to the palace and showed that she had any power. The book spent so much time dumping out info about the world that we had to wait for all of that to be finished before the actual story begins. Neither of the romances are done well. The kissing scenes are poorly executed with no build up. There are no lingering looks or any touches or talking about emotions. Nothing to indicate that she has more than feelings of friendship for the guys yet we are supposed to be invested in their love triangle. Wasn't for me.

This story lost me within the first 20 min. Instead of taking time to build any kind of mystery or slowly reveal information about the world. the characters just tell you through dialogue about everything. "hey did you know magic exists and you have powers and your online boyfriend is catfishing you he's actually just your familiar; let's meet him right now." No. that's not a spoiler. You learn that 4 min after the video game boyfriend is introduced because... reasons. If in the first 20 min I'm already bored then it's a waste of a credit. Show don't tell.

because the last book ended with the most unnecessary cliffhanger. This book continues from the last like turning a chapter. Should have ended when Jamie went back to school. If this wasn't currently on Audible Escape I'd be pissed. Other than that this series is ridiculously engaging and I'd have picked this up even without the cliffhanger.

The main character is an idiot. Not in a ditsy way. She goes against all sound logic just to be contrary. She's terrible to perfect strangers with no provocation. It would take a twist of fate, magical insta-lust, and some of that "I can see deeply into your soul and tell exactly who you are just by staring" nonsense to make anyone want to date this girl or even just be her friend. and that's exactly what happens.

She is the cliched "I have been hurt so I'm going to take it out on anyone who comes into contact with me" character. She is the early 20's cliche of constantly insisting that she is an adult and behaves maturely and better than those around her. She also complains about the mean girls at school being rude but is a hypocrite because she treats complete strangers like dirt too.

Sadie Moss is a good writer and keeps the story well paced and interesting, but her characters are lazily shaped. This plot is also ridiculously similar to ACADEMY OF ASSASSINS which is also an RH. The mystery is the exact same. It is also similar to her own story BOUND BY MAGIC in that the main character finds out later in life than most that she has magic. Her writing skill does make for an entertaining read especially if you don't roll your eyes to hard at the MC's "prickly" behavior.

The book is great, the narrator is excellent but she can't do male characters. the voices for the men especially Goose who is supposed to be 6'4" and intimidating and built with a husky voice. She gave him the highest pitch voice. it's even higher than the main character Kendall and it just takes you out of the story because it's so unattractive and weird. He sound like a 4'6" prepubescent 4th grader. not 18 or 19 and built. Please get a new narrator. or make it a duet with a male narrator to speak for the guys and men, because otherwise it would have been great.

I think the author did a very poor job introducing the Male characters. she focuses more on the fact they are all mated and less on their different characteristics and because of that their personalities all blur together.

The female voice read end every phrase with this hard clipped sound. Noone naturally talks like that. Every sentence feels disjointed rather than flowing naturally together. Male reader was pretty good imo

All of that aside I think the idea for the story is really creative. I just think this story could have been better developed.
