Thomas shares many of the family traits, particularly the ability to find himself reluctantly at the sharp end of many major events of his age. Flashman, gives an illuminating account with a unique perspective. It details feats of incredible courage, (not his, obviously), reckless folly, and sheer good luck that were to change the future of India and the career of a general who would later win a war in Europe.

Entertains & Illuminates Fascinating History

When the Coen brothers filmed.their version of True Grit, I thought I would probably dislike it, sight unseen. Then I saw the newer film, and found it much truer to the original novel, which I had read.
The same is true for this sequel of the George McDonald Fraser Flashman novels. I was prepared to dislike a new series. After listening, I find I like it even better. It seems more subtle, and yet still has a fine balance of fun, roguery and incredible historical details. The end notes that tell where the ideas heard in the book really came from I really enjoyed.
Hoping for many other novels of Thomas Flashman to come.
