Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

R rated mix of Hunger Games and Harry Potter
Revisado: 01-07-24
It was pretty good. Felt like a more adult combo of Harry Potter and Hunger Games. Drug on a bit at times but I was entertained enough to get the next book. I almost didn’t get this because of the reviews about the narrator sounding congested. A bad narrator can ruin the book. I don’t really get those comments though. Sounded like it was just her voice and it wasn’t bothersome at all. Worth the credit, entertaining, but not the best book I’ve read.

Historia
Six years after the fight that ended their friendship, Daphne Berg is shocked when Drue Cavanaugh walks back into her life, looking as lovely and successful as ever, with a massive favor to ask. Daphne hasn’t spoken one word to Drue in all this time - she doesn’t even hate-follow her ex-best friend on social media - so when Drue asks if she will be her maid-of-honor at the society wedding of the summer, Daphne is rightfully speechless.

The narrator ruins an already mediocre book
Revisado: 10-17-20
The narrator pronounced “t” as “d” and it made me crazy. Cotton was “coddon” and written was “wridden” and I just kept finding myself irritated. The story itself was...fine. Meh. I have enjoyed Jennifer Weiner’s other books, but this one is definitely not a winner.

The Narrator is the Worst
Revisado: 12-25-18
I couldn't even finish listening to this book because the narrator is so awful. He has one tone - angry. I cannot imagine listening to 13 hours of his angry voice. I tried to give it a go because the story actually seems fine. I might buy the book and just read it myself, but this narrator is the worst. Had to give it up after a few hours of angry narration.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Historia
Disillusioned with her corporate legal career, attorney Charlotte Ambler volunteers to handle the final appeal of Christopher Ritter, a Florida death row inmate whose execution is imminent. Ritter had been a prominent biologist before being convicted 10 years earlier for the brutal murder of a prostitute. He denies killing the woman but is tormented by guilt for other, secret transgressions. The only appeal he will allow is to prove that he is innocent - a kind of appeal which is almost impossible to succeed.

Trying to be something it isn’t
Revisado: 09-24-18
First, the narrator sounded like he was talking in a tunnel, which was annoying. I could hear the pauses in the recording. The story was made overly complicated by trying to intertwine “deep” philosophical themes that felt like the author was trying to be overly intellectual. It got really old and I couldn’t wait for this book to end. The female main character was another weak woman character which annoys me greatly. Finally, and I say this with some authority as a criminal defense attorney, the law isn’t presented in a believable or accurate way. Save your money.

So sophomoric and dumb
Revisado: 08-15-18
I rarely write reviews, but if I can save someone the credit or $15, I’ll be glad I did. This book is dumb. Simple. Predictable. Unlikeable and unrealistic characters. I hated it. I was on a long drive so I listened to it, but ugh, it was so bad.

Painfully Stupid
Revisado: 07-21-18
I hated everything about this book. I’m ashamed I even finished it. There’s not a single character that is like able. The plot is repetitive and unbelievable. I can’t think of anything I liked about it. Truly an awful book.

Just a stupid book
Revisado: 06-21-17
The main character in this book feels totally pathetic. Also, as a criminal defense attorney myself, I can say that her job as a "federal prosecutor" is completely unrealistic. I could barely get through this. The narrator is good, which is about the only positive thing I can say.

Not a thriller
Revisado: 06-13-17
I downloaded this book because I enjoyed the author's previous books. There is nothing about this book that makes it a thriller. Absolutely nothing. It was slow, it was drawn out, and it was pretty boring. Don't buy this book just because you liked his others, this one is very different.

Ridiculously bad book

The narration was good, but the story was really terrible. At multiple points I almost threw in the towel...and I should have. Just terrible.
