I loved the Anderson chapters later and always wish I could have more of his early opa years. this is good but obviously just makes me want more

I was picturing Solomon as a very different type of person from the few mentions he gets in the main books. this was a fun glimpse back at the earlier stages of this lovely universe.

I've heard a few great retellings of some of these stories but this one just cracks. its neither childish, grim, bogged down, or stripped down. it stitches them together in a way that's not just believable and impactful but FUNNY!

I watched the movie several times and thought I got it but this was much more enjoyable and narratively satisfying. the bit about the airlock doors pissed me off but hearing how the whole thing was dauntingly high concept and rushed along, I'm not too bothered.

the worst I can say is it gets the tiniest bit corny but if you're familiar with Taylor's writing, it's nothing that will surprise or upset you. the way the scenes are painted is so tangible and sometimes wonderfully tense.

this is spectacularly nothing. I am so confused. a person who usually has good taste recomend me this cardboard dog crap. every character sounds like they were written and performed by a child. STAY AWAY!

Offensively stupid and distractingly sexist

The building fear and cosmic strangeness I came for was there, as was the treachery and strategic intrigue but that gets weaker and weaker as the story goes on. There are huge holes in logic. Every character is a cardboard cutout. The female lead is supposed to be a brilliant scientist but act like a child who dooms everyone with her utterly senseless actions. Nothing makes sense. Nothing connects. Every established rule is broken and forgotten about without explanation. The author clearly wanted to go big but took on far more than they could manage. I would've been happy with a cliff hanger of half this length; instead, I wasted a week on this dry turd!
