I couldn't get into this because of the narrator. This is a mm romance but narrated by a woman. It was jarring to listen to so I was unable to focus on the story.

By chapter 7 I knew I couldn't care less about any of the characters. If all of a sudden they got hit by a bus it wouldn't have made the book any worse. The premise had potential but fell flat with severely underdeveloped characters.
The narration was at times jarring. A women character is introduced and apparently she is an 80 year old chain smoker ex drill sgt. with throat cancer, while men sounded higher pitched and more feminine. During sex scenes he did a "sexy voice". When there are quotes around that term it never ends up sounding sexy. I skipped all sex scenes because the voice pitch and speed made me seriously cringe.
If you just need background noise this would work fine because it won't grab your attention for long.

Any additional comments?

This book was a surprise for me. A good one but still a surprise. I did not expect much when I purchased it (it was on sale) even with the high reviews, but I am truly glad that I did.

If you don't like a fast paced fantasy with blood, gore and grossness (without making you up-chuck), humor and good triumphs over evil in spectacular fashion kind of book then look elsewhere.

This book has a main character that I could root for. Yes he seems like a superman character. He is big, super strong, smart, fast for his size and has super powers even he didn't realize he had. Basically an all around fictional character. However, that didn't bother me a bit and that is what truly surprised me. The author and the narrator made me not care. I was to caught up in the action.

The narrator really fit the voice of Owen Z. Pitt. The narrator also made me forget to be frustrated with my Windows phone because I cant adjust the speed of the narration. That takes some doing. I enjoyed Owen Pitt because of both them and will re-listen to this book again and will also purchase the next one! I want to hear Owen Z. Pitt's story. I want to hear his take on his world some more.

I didn't like the love interest aspect of the book. I think it actually took away from the story and made some parts feel as though the characters were in junior high. There weren't many of those scenes thankfully and they didn't last more than a sentence or two when they did occur.

I will be listening to this book again.

This is a feel good story. There isn't much character development or emotional attachment to any character. Sometimes though you want a simple book that you don't have to think about. Just something that fills the silence and keeps you somewhat occupied, so that if your mind wanders in and out your don't really miss anything.

The narrator really is bad though that he ruined a simple feel good story. Made it pretty unbearable in fact. Travis is given an over the top stereo-typical Texan accent. Although amazingly, none of the other Texas residents have one. Lubbock is pronounced Lou-bock. Correct way is Lub-ick. It makes it distracting to try and puzzle out what the author is trying to say when a main character sounds like a buffoon. I kept expecting to hear something along the lines of Goofy's "Ah shucks" and laugh after ever sentence. There wasn't any need to make him sounds so stupid, it came across as if the narrator was prejudiced against Texans and southerners in general.

I love this narrator! People may not have different sounding voices however he manages to pull all the sarcasm out perfectly. I have found that there are very few narrators who can make the funny parts as funny as the author intended them to be or even funnier. How can a book with an adult with ADHD, a cranky lesbian and two headed frogs not be funny? There are some awesome one liners but don’t fret that isn’t all the humor in the book.

The story line is unique. The dialog isn’t tripe or predictable. The characters are believable. There isn’t much depth given for Fish Bait and Whiskey as there is with Patrick but their interactions make up for that. The difference between the inner and outer dialog is a bit hard to follow at times, but even though I liked it. I have listened to this book twice and it still makes me laugh.

For those who are intelligent and a bit spastic or OCD themselves you’ll like this book.

This is the first book I have listened with Shannon Gunn as a narrator. I will listen to any book he narrates because he is that awesome. He gives the needed pauses, inflection and makes the humor in this book sing. I could go on forever about how great of a job he did with this story and the characters. The story and writing were wonderful because of the narration. I laughed a lot with this book. Laugh out loud funny.

I truly enjoyed the different take on the hero. He is far from perfect which makes him perfect. He comes off as rude and insane but probably has high functioning autism. The characters were very well developed throughout the book. As the book went on there was always more to be added to already likable characters. I did want to kill the duke a few times but at the end of the book I could see being interested in his own book.
The bad guy is pretty easy to figure out with the clues given, but that still didn't detract from wanting to finish it. Narration was spot on. Even though there is a female narrator she didn't make the men sound like McGruff the Crime dog or coping with a bad case of COPD combined with a fatal case of TB. She could keep the attention of a dozen two year old's on sugar highs.

Any additional comments?

This book had a good story line but...the chapters went by so fast that I didn't get emotionally attached to any of them. If the dialog hadn't been so bland, maybe a few funny moments or comments then it would have flowed better. However, the dialog was bland and there wasn't a humorous moment to be found. More than halfway through the book and still no character development. There is a guy with a kid and a guy who was his wife's best friend. Never is there a connection, shared moment with wife and guy with kid and guy best friend. How does that even happen in life?Even if this was a very well written book where I could give a fat two cents about the characters in it, the narrator ruined it. He is sooo frigging chipper during the whole book (even during the death of the wife or speaking about guilt ridden feelings dude is having for his dead wife's best friend) that it became...confusing, irritating, frustrating..I could keep going. During the sex scenes the two men sounded more as if they were discussing the shopping list or checking to make the spark plugs were in correctly. (Okay, man turn her over now. Okay you're good to go. Thanks dude, see you at the bowling alley, say hi to the wife and kids.)
