Historia
Big-band frontman Johnny Favorite was singing for the troops when a Luftwaffe fighter squadron strafed the bandstand, killing the crowd and leaving the singer near death. The army returned him to a private hospital in upstate New York, leaving him to live out his days as a vegetable while the world forgot him. But Louis Cyphre never forgets. Cyphre had a contract with the singer, stipulating payment upon Johnny's death—payment that will be denied as long as Johnny clings to life. When Cyphre hires Harry Angel to find Johnny at the hospital, Angel learns that the singer has disappeared.

Historia
It is three in the morning when Bobby Western plunges from the Coast Guard tender into darkness. His dive light illuminates the sunken jet, nine bodies still buckled in their seats, hair floating, eyes devoid of speculation. Missing from the site are the pilot’s bag, the plane’s black box, and the tenth passenger. A collateral witness to machinations that can only bring him harm, Western is shadowed in body and spirit—by men with badges; by the ghost of his father, inventor of the bomb that melted glass and flesh in Hiroshima; and by his sister, the love and ruin of his soul.

I could keep track of what was going on. It made no sense. I couldn’t keep track of who was who and then a whole subplot about a girl who sees a dude with flippers for hands?? No.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Ok
Revisado: 05-02-15
The Good: in depth characters, great language, interesting concept, great mystery.
The bad: too many characters. Characters with similar names. Drawn out.
The Ugly: bad narration. Bad narration. Narrator can't read a sentence past the end of the written line. The voices range from good to horribly annoying. Pronunciation is all over the place.
I was disappointed in this, although, it was still quite enjoyable.

Yawn
Revisado: 04-10-15
This was a great story to go to sleep to, except for the terrible narration that makes screaming children on a plane sound pleasant.
We have way too many characters and the overall story is boring as hell. Sansa and Arya are the only interesting storylines. Every other one could have been dealt with in two chapters, except for the end. It takes about 60 chapters to get interesting.

Historia
What if—whoosh, right now, with no explanation—a number of us simply vanished? Would some of us collapse? Would others of us go on, one foot in front of the other, as we did before the world turned upside down? That's what the bewildered citizens of Mapleton, who lost many of their neighbors, friends and lovers in the event known as the Sudden Departure, have to figure out. Because nothing has been the same since it happened—not marriages, not friendships, not even the relationships between parents and children.

Same old thing
Revisado: 02-20-14
It's the same Stephanie Plum formula with a few new variables.
Bond capture fails because Lula screws up.
Stephanie can't decide between Joe and Ranger.
Bella hates Stephanie.
Some weird side story.
Lula gets mad at being called fat.
They eat chicken and donuts.
Granny goes to funerals.
Granny fits the modern granny 'shocking' stereotype.
Stephanie loses/ruins several cars.
Stephanie's mom is disappointed in Stephanie's life.
Stephanie is in peril and Ranger rescues her.
Stephanie comes through.
You now have the basic story of the last 5 books. Time to change the formula up.
Lula is excruciatingly annoying. Granny needs less focus. Stephanie needs to grow up. The narrator is fabulous, despite the terrible stupid story/dialogue.

Another great Connelly book.
Revisado: 11-18-13
I am revisiting this series on its own - not in the shadow of Harry Bosch, whom I adore. This book is a not quite as strong in the main plot, but is well written and really stands as a second book. It suffers a bit from transition-itis, meaning a bit of exposition and character discovery that is important but distracts from the main plot. It's still a very good listen, but not as engaging or suspenseful as Lincoln Lawyer. Still, completely worth the listen and not just because it's there.
I love serials and Mickey is worth investing time in.

Historia
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Great Listen
Revisado: 11-18-13
I originally listened to this after a binge of Harry Bosch books and just relistened. I loved it. Excellent narration, good story, and very engaging. There were a few painfully slow parts, but overall, a very fun listen.
This is not a Harry Bosch book. Don't get it if you want that darker noir crotchety detective style. If you want a fun ride with new characters but by a trusted writer, do it. Worth the credit. By far.

A miss for me
Revisado: 11-01-13
I have no problem suspending disbelief over the premise of having a double. A Tale Of Two Cities has no problem overcoming such a far fetched idea. This book, not so much. Without giving too many spoilers, the idea that a police force is going to place a detective undercover for the murder of a nobody and with no suspicions of larger criminal activity, is where they lost me.
The narration is wonderful, with my only complaint being not enough vocal individuality for each character, but the attempt was made.
The book is too long and the climax, rather underwhelming. By the time the reveal came around, I just didn't care. And after the big reveal? There's still like another hour of book!
I really wanted to like the book more and really tried to suspend disbelief, but I couldn't wait for the book to end.

Historia
Robert McCammon brings the hero of his previous novel, Matthew Corbett, to 18th-century New York, where a killer wields a bloody and terrifying power over a bustling city carving out its identity - and over Matthew's own uncertain destiny.
The unsolved murder of a respected doctor has sent ripples of fear throughout a city teeming with life and noise and commerce. Who snuffed out the good man's life with the slash of a blade on a midnight street? The local printmaster has labeled the fiend "the Masker," adding fuel to a volatile mystery...

I guess I don't get it
Revisado: 08-13-13
This was difficult for me to get through. The first part is horribly boring and I get that it's exposition, but really unentertaining. The book then drones on and on and on. Seemingly unrelated things all end up relating, even though they are a huge stretch. There are too many characters to keep track of unless you keep a chart or binge listen. I did neither, so by the end, I had no idea who half the characters were.
With all the words, by the time you get to the final 5 chapters, details are skipped over while other events never seem to end.
The foreshadowing of times to come (fingerprints in the eighteenth century?) is too smug and happens a number of times. A rape of a drugged male by a female is given almost no attention and the character basically carried on like it was nothing but a bad dream.
Great bedtime listening for me since I couldn't seem to listen for more than 20 minutes.
