Historia
In 2010, the words “earthquake swarm” entered the lexicon in Oklahoma. That same year, a trove of Michael Jackson memorabilia—including his iconic crystal-encrusted white glove—was sold at auction for over $1 million to a guy who was, officially, just the lowly forestry minister of the tiny nation of Equatorial Guinea. And in 2014, Ukrainian revolutionaries raided the palace of their ousted president and found a zoo of peacocks, gilded toilets, and a floating restaurant modeled after a Spanish galleon.

Enjoyable but scattered
Revisado: 03-23-21
The performance was enjoyable and wry, as you'd exist from Rachel Maddow.
While all of the anecdotes individually were fascinating, the book felt somewhat lacking in a strong organizing thread, which at times left me feeling disjointed.

Historia
I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

Amateurish
Revisado: 03-02-20
From the childish language to the weak story structure, it felt like hearing a student effort rather than a well developed book. The main character was an unlikable broski with zero distinguishing qualities.
The concept was kind of fun. Execution, not so much.

Historia
Bunk traces the history of the hoax as a peculiarly American phenomenon, examining what motivates hucksters and makes the rest of us so gullible. Disturbingly, Young finds that fakery is woven from stereotype and suspicion, race being the most insidious American hoax of all. He chronicles how Barnum came to fame by displaying figures like Joice Heth, a black woman whom he pretended was the 161-year-old nursemaid to George Washington.

Horrible Narration
Revisado: 05-09-18
It's difficult to assess the content because the horrible narration makes it nearly impossible to listen to. Grating, repetitive, strangely sarcastic, with weirdly long, stilted pauses. Deeply irritating.
