Historia
You are a failed novelist about to turn 50. A wedding invitation arrives in the mail: Your boyfriend of the past nine years is engaged to someone else. You can't say yes - it would be too awkward - and you can't say no - it would look like defeat. On your desk are a series of invitations to half-baked literary events around the world. Question: How do you arrange to skip town? Answer: You accept them all.

I couldn't listen to the end of this book because I lost interest in whatever was going on. A lot of sex and not much else.

I'm sorry, but I listened until chapter 11 and still could not understand what was going on. The narration was confusing, the story never materialized as the description described, and I just gave up. Again, did I download the right book?

Where was the story?
Revisado: 01-01-18
I listened through chapter nine and all I got was background, soulful descriptions, and little about what the story was supposed to be about. So I simply went on to the next book. Call me crazy but if I'm listening to a book about a murder mystery, I like to get into the mystery quicker than chapter nine. So maybe the story was great but I lost patience.

Where was the story?
Revisado: 12-25-17
I listened for one hour. All I got heard was statistics and documentary comments about how bad people were, how many murderers, junkies, prostitutes, and low-lifes in Malone home town and he in jail. Sorry, if the story doesn't unfold in an hour, then I'm on to the next book. If you got through that hour, you're certainly more patient than me.

Revisado: 11-26-17
This story was a thriller from start to finish, especially the surprise ending! The main characters are all flawed, but incredibly interesting. Some you will like, others you will hate. And the narration was terrific. Steven Weber doesn't read, he tells a story. Wow. One of my favorites and I've been a listener for over a decade.

Revisado: 09-27-17
I've listened to Grabenstein's comedy/mysteries and have found them to very entertaining, but this new genre of murder mysteries with Chris Miller, is a real thriller. And the narrator is incredible. He does so many voices with such skill and his story telling is so natural.
It's a MUST listen.

One of the Best I've listened to in 15 years!
Revisado: 01-02-16
What did you love best about The Life We Bury?
The story was compelling. About a dying man who spent 30 years in prison, a student and friend who were driven to investigate and in mortal danger for their efforts, a great narrator who captured all the events of the lives in this complex story. Great listen, great story, very surprising end.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Life We Bury?
The end was entirely surprising.
Have you listened to any of Zach Villa’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but will certainly look for more books by this narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The emotional build up was amazing. The dying man's honesty, the student's family, mother, brother, revealed the character of this student. The girl friend who came along side the student. All were people with flaws, all were (accept the miserable mother) incredibly honest and likable.
Any additional comments?
I've been a listener since Audible came public in 1999 and this is without question one of the best books I've heard.

Historia
Long Beach homicide detective Danny Beckett can’t escape the pain. It’s everywhere: in the injuries that earned him a year-long medical leave; in the suffering of every victim he’s ever encountered; in the agony of his past. But he must keep the pain at bay to prove he still has what it takes to do the job. So it’s only fitting that his first major case back is a gruesome one: A California congressman’s daughter-in-law and grandchildren have been brutally murdered, and the carnage is some of the worst Danny’s ever seen. Is it a mob hit? Political retribution? A random sex crime? Nothing quite adds up….

Narration is terrible.
Revisado: 03-03-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I'm sorry, but Mel Foster is simply too boring. He reads the text in such a flat, monosyllabic tone and draws out the words so painfully that I just can't get into the book at all. The "pain scale" of the narration is just too much to overcome to enjoy this story.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
First, Tyler Dilts included too many anecdotes about totally irrelevant material - who cares about the character's drinking, how much pain he's in, and about his playing the banjo? Boring nonsense. Distracts from the story. I was forgetting what the story was about.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Just plain too much to endure. Couldn't finish the book.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Can't understand narrator.
Revisado: 03-03-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This could be the best story ever, but if you have trouble understanding English accents - I have a bit of a hearing problem to begin with - then this narration is not for you.
Would you be willing to try another book from Paula Hawkins? Why or why not?
If the narration is easier to understand, of course.
How could the performance have been better?
Have someone like Grover Gardner narrate. He's not only easy to understand but is a great story teller.

Historia
How to you extort $600,000 from a dying man? Someone had done it very quietly and skilfully to the husband of Travis McGee's ex-girlfriend. McGee flies to Chicago to help untangle the mess and discovers that, although Dr. Fortner Geis had led an exemplary life, there were those who'd take advantage of one "indiscretion" and bring down the whole family. McGee also discovers he likes a few members of the family far too much to let that happen....

Just the Best!
Revisado: 09-18-12
Where does One Fearful Yellow Eye rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
MacDonald's stories are complex yet rather easy to follow and very entertaining. The author has that rare talent for lulling the reader into thinking the story is over but then springs a real shocker at the end.
What did you like best about this story?
Aside from a terrific and entertaining plot, MacDonald inserts his own philosophy about people that brings life and vitality to the story. And even though the books were written in the 1960s, his world views seem very contemporary.
What about Robert Petkoff’s performance did you like?
Robert Petkoff could read the dictionary and make it sound exciting. When he changes voices to reflect the many and varied characters you think that there must be more than just Petkoff speaking. And, unlike some narrators, Robert doesn't sound like he's reading. Travis McGee becomes real, the characters become real, and the story becomes real. And all the while someone is telling this crasy story.
