Historia
A startling crime with dozens of victims. Appearing out of nowhere to horrify the quiet resort town of Sanibel Island, Florida, dozens of identical, ordinary-looking shoes float in on the tide and are washed up on the tropical beach—each one with a crudely severed human foot inside.

This installment of the Pendergast series was extremely satisfying. I had a lot of concern about who would take over the narration after the passing of Rene. Mr. Mays does an exemplary job!

This is an fun, well thought out version of the Templar story. If you are a fan of Dan Brown's novels, you'll be a fan of Cotton Malone. The ending is very satisfying.

Historia
After an overhaul of leadership at the FBI's New York field office, A. X. L. Pendergast is abruptly forced to accept an unthinkable condition of continued employment: the famously rogue agent must now work with a partner. Pendergast and his new teammate, junior agent Coldmoon, are assigned to Miami Beach, where a rash of killings by a bloodthirsty psychopath are distinguished by a confounding M.O.: cutting out the hearts of his victims and leaving them - along with cryptic handwritten letters - at local gravestones, unconnected save in one bizarre way.

Thoroughly engrossing
Revisado: 01-06-19
An excellent addition to the series. Pendergast fans will not be disappointed. At least one reference to past events in SA Pendergast's new partner opens the door for a stands alone novel about his early career as well.
As usual, Rene Auberjonois' narration is superb. I would love to see Hachette Audio or Audible redo the first two books if the series with him as the narrator.

Killed by the new narrator
Revisado: 01-03-19
The story is good enough. I love this series. However, changing narrators this far into the series is a horrible decision. Maybe there was no choice because of contract issues or something. Mr. Kafer has done an acceptable job on other works, but Mr. Poe's work is far superior.

Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

I cannot say enough great things about this book. I'm an information junkie and this book is full to bursting with fascinating stuff. Granted, some of the information is a tad dated, but even that gives you a superb shirt history lesson on how the knowledge was gained. It drips with the razor sharp wit and banter that all of Mr Bryson's books do.
Although I truly enjoy hear this author read his own books, this narrator does an excellent job.
I'd give it 10 stars of they'd let me!

Historia
A construction project beneath the National Mall reveals a dark secret dating back to the Civil War, something buried by a cabal of scientists, led by Alexander Graham Bell, who helped found the Smithsonian Institution. It is a cache of bones, preserved in amber, protecting a wonder like no other, the very secret of life after death. But such a prize is guarded by a horror out of the ancient past, a horror that still lives in the marrow of those bones - and is now free again.

Peters out at the end. Good story.
Revisado: 12-28-17
Still not as good as the first few installments. I don't understand why they have insisted on this narrator for the past several books in the series. Still, the story is good and original. There is enough plausibility the keep you thinking a while after you finish it. The gruesome parts are very well done. All in all, well worth the credit. That narrator though...

Historia
The year is 1703, and Matthew Corbett, professional "problem solver", is missing. Last seen by his friends in New York before he departed on a lucrative, seemingly straightforward mission for the Herrald Agency in Charles Town, he's been too long absent. His comrade-in-arms Hudson Greathouse has an increasing sense the young friend he thinks of as a son must have met with some unexpected peril.

Dolores also tells of Vera's physical and mental decline and how she became emotionally demanding in recent years.

A Better Listen than Read
Revisado: 08-25-17
Would you listen to Dolores Claiborne again? Why?
Yes. The narrator is absolutely wonderful. I got lost in her heavy New England accent. Combine that with the hypnotic way Stephen King paints a picture of a small New England town the way he has done so many times and it is truly a joy. The story itself is very good, but, truly, the real bones of the production is in the performance.
What other book might you compare Dolores Claiborne to and why?
Audible fans of Stephen King will recognize a bit of Salem's Lot and Tommyknockers in the way the small New England town is manifested before you is such wonderful detail. The plot isn't as complex as the others, but the style is satisfyingly familiar.
What does Frances Sternhagen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She is perfect! The book was good when I read it years ago, but her performance has lifted my appreciation for the book 100 fold. I cannot praise her work enough.
If you could rename Dolores Claiborne, what would you call it?
"A Well of Guilt"
Any additional comments?
I think all Audible fans have a few selections that they keep in their library as fallbacks. Books that you listen to when you are between books. This is one for me. I will listen to this book countless times in the future; and I believe that most King fans would do the same if they give it a try.

Revisado: 03-29-17
About twenty minutes in to this book I almost turned it off. The narrator's cadence was monotonous to say the least. but I stuck with it, mainly because I'm I sucker for a good Armageddon tale. I am glad I did.
it maps out an interesting theory of how mass extinctions have occurred. its not all together plausible, but it does make you think.
the side stories of the main characters family are interesting enough, but not really important. but, let's be honest, one doesn't but a book like this expecting greatness. one gets into this book for the monster. this was a good monster.

Historia
If the biblical plagues of Egypt truly happened—could they happen again—on a global scale? Two years after vanishing into the Sudanese desert, Professor Harold McCabe comes stumbling out of the sands, but he dies before he can tell his story. Then an autopsy uncovers a bizarre corruption: someone had begun to mummify the professor's body—while he was still alive. Subsequently, the medical team who had performed the man's autopsy has fallen ill with an unknown disease. Fearing the worst, a colleague of the professor reaches out to Painter Crowe, the director of Sigma Force. The call is urgent, for Professor McCabe had vanished into the desert while searching for proof of the ten plagues of Moses.

This One Gets the Series Back on Track
Revisado: 01-12-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Seventh Plague to be better than the print version?
Have not read the print version. However, I am not a fan of the narrator so I may have enjoyed the print version more.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Seventh Plague?
The scenes with elephants. You can tell a lot of time and research went into these passages. They were heart warming and very well done.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
For the life of me I can't understand why Christian Baskous has done so many of these books. He's not unbearable, but darn close. The earlier installments with Mr. Fernandez and Mr. Brick were far better. It is almost as if they are tied to him for contractual reasons. This series is way too popular to allow it to be held back by this guy. His inflection is over-the-top, when doing conversation he snips the end of sentences, he rushes through dialog...He just rubs me the wrong way.In all fairness, there are some reviewers that seem to enjoy him. Not this guy.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No...but it never bogged down too much. It kept a good pace throughout.
Any additional comments?
This series had lost a lot of its magic for me of late. This book brought much of that back.
