Loved everything! I wished there was mention of Hester in the law world because shes awesome but liked the overall character interaction and dialogue. I liked this book the most since Winn and was truly intrigued and surprised by all the reveals. I hope this one is adapted by Netflix and set in the US because I finally want to see all the landmarks he writes about and because the students are such American characters. I also hope there's a sequel book with the classroom characters. I listened in one day, couldn't shut it off!!!

Were it not for the extremely serious topic the book is precisely about, I would have thoroughly enjoyed the book. I only read for entertainment and I feel awful and sad reading books that cover this topic. Otherwise, the main character and the setting plus the narration were all very well done.

Spoiler alert: Loved the narration and it was a great story but it was agonizing to hear the point of view of the victim.

At first, I struggled to get through the first several chapters. Eventually, I came back & finally listened because I always think Liane is worth it. While not my favorite of LM's books (that's The Husband's Secret), I like the grounded realness of Joy. She represents the ordinary mother but what I found so beautiful is that LM is letting us know there's nothing ordinary about any mother! Every mother's action or inaction has so much power. Now that I'm older & have grown children, I can not only connect with all of Joy's emotions but I truly appreciate the impact of that message. Joy's character is wonderful & it was the perspective of her character that kept me wanting to know- "What happened"?

The book is predictable in some aspects as it is in part the formula followed by LM, (which is something I also enjoy). There are some unpredictable moments but I won't spoil any of it.

I do think it is worth listening to this story, once you get past the first 6 or 7 chapters (hard to pinpoint on Audible).
In the end, he story's progress reminds me of a pleasant stew that took hours & hours to simmer but in the end you had a yummy, comfort meal.

Finally, I definitely want to praise the narration. I could hear every characters' distinct personality through her voice.
It was wonderful & engaging.

Very entertaining & satisfying read. Not a clichéd young- woman-as-the- flawed- heroine- story. I hope there are more books to come by this author!
