Historia
Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Historia
In this exquisitely written book, Robert Macfarlane sets off from his Cambridge, England, home to follow the ancient tracks, holloways, drove roads, and sea paths that crisscross both the British landscape and its waters and territories beyond. The result is an immersive, enthralling exploration of the ghosts and voices that haunt old paths, of the stories our tracks keep and tell, and of pilgrimage and ritual. Told in Macfarlane’s distinctive voice, The Old Ways folds together natural history, cartography, geology, archaeology, and literature.

There were engaging parts but I think listening in audio, I just tuned this narrator out. He’s not very lively.

It’s Depressing
Revisado: 02-24-25
I found Kate narrator annoying. The horrible things happening to these women is darker and heavier than what should be cathartic. Also, there are very few good men, and I could see how people would be turned off by that. It’s about the abuse of women, so I understand why, but it makes it grating and the women seem hollow as if they can be nothing but victims. They are very static. And that’s what made me sad. There was not a depth to them other than being victims. Except for Altha, who I enjoyed the most.

The complexity of Family Relationships and the Past
Revisado: 02-11-25
It is sad and the characters are complex. I don’t like the infusion of COVID only because so many of remember the trauma of it. I think that’s just because even though those were quiet days, we also knew the world had crashed then too. And maybe that’s the thing I don’t like.

Historia
Over decades of research, speaking engagements, and mentorship, psychologist and professor Alison Fragale encountered recurring questions from high powered and early career women alike: How do women thread the needle of kindness and competence in the workplace? How can women earn credit for their accomplishments, negotiate better, and navigate complex office politics without losing the goodwill of their peers? Behavioral scientist Alison Fragale offers powerful new insights and a practical playbook for women to advance in any workplace.

It’s the repetitiveness kills me. But the tips are good. I’m just someone who can’t stand to have things repeated over and over. I’m taking the good tips I can for this though because there were good game plans to address bias against women in the workplace.

At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. This was a very thorough biography, and though Joan’s life was so very much to plow through, it didn’t get boring because of the many different historical and political stories that Joan told and those that intertwined with her life. Great book.

Historia
The colonists from the Pathfinder have arrived on Kaguya, a planet with low gravity but a very dense atmosphere. It’s fun to jump around, but the air makes you loopy - and worse than that, the heavy atmosphere means that wind storms, although rare, are absolutely devastating. Zero and Nyx help to get everything locked down before the first big storm, but they stumble onto a group of thieves who have stolen some mining equipment. Before the kids have a chance to get away and tell anyone, the storm hits and the massive winds carry them far away.
