Historia
Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell is whisked off to a remote island off the tip of Cornwall when her natural historian colleague Stoker's brother calls in a favor. On the pretext of wanting a companion to accompany him to Lord Malcolm Romilly's house party, Tiberius persuades Veronica to pose as his fiancée. But upon arriving, it becomes clear that the party is not as innocent as it had seemed. Every invited guest has a connection to Romilly's wife, Rosamund, who disappeared on her wedding day three years ago, and a dramatic dinner proves she is very much on her husband's mind.

Don’t skip it
Revisado: 07-03-23
I was tempted to skip this book because it sounded boring. It does get off to a slow start but then picks up the pace. I enjoyed the ending, even if I switch to drinking brandy for a while.

It’s what I needed to hear
Revisado: 06-11-23
This book is deceivingly small. It was a lot pauses for me to stop and think about what she’s asking and to do the work but I come out on the other side able to articulate my needs and stand firm in my decisions.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Surprisingly Good
Revisado: 11-26-18
I wasn't sure about this book but needed something I could casually listen to on vacation. The stories are interesting and I kept googling things to learn more about them. I highly recommend!

Data Overload and Poor Execution
Revisado: 03-24-15
Would you try another book from Michelle L. Johnson and/or Khristine Hvam?
Bless Khristine Hvarn. I would try her again as she did a great job with the upteen characters she had to deal with.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Divinity?
I would keep Michael, Julia, and Gabriel's POV but remove everyone else's scenes, they weren't needed as we could infer all that information from Michael's scenes.
Any additional comments?
This is a great idea that lead to poor execution. There are times where world building should have happened and wasn't and other times were the world building didn't add to the story. I would suggest a novella to be written before this of how Julia was conceived and add many of the builds in that instead of cramming it into this story.

I have a beef with the author
Revisado: 03-06-15
What made the experience of listening to Vision in Silver the most enjoyable?
Everyone's different perspectives on the situation. Some things you can guess ahead of time but the reveals are always perfect.
Which scene was your favorite?
I love all the scenes when Simon and Meg are confused.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
During one scene, one of the girls spends time on the porch. I cried; her description of her joy was beautiful.
Any additional comments?
My beef is, these books are so long that when they are over, I feel like I have binge-watched a show. I don't want to leave the world created for us. I wouldn't want them shorter, in fact, longer would be preferred. I love this series.

Where does Mark of the Demon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I thought it was a great stand alone. I won't read the series though.

Careful Reading this at Work
Revisado: 01-08-15
If you could sum up Once Burned in three words, what would they be?
Hot, Smart, and Bothered
What was one of the most memorable moments of Once Burned?
When Leila gives Vlad her greatest gift. It was sweet and hot all at the same time. I was listening to it at work and had to keep checking others couldn't hear my headphones.
What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I like her Vlad. I probably wouldn't read it with an accent in my head, but she is consistent in his accent and how he talks to Leila.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. I kept getting annoyed anytime someone asked me a question at work.
Any additional comments?
I love her other books and Bones appearance made me laugh just as he had in his own books.
