Historia
In 1936, George Orwell went to Spain to report on the civil war and instead joined the P.O.U.M. militia to fight against the Fascists. In this now justly famous account of his experience, he describes both the bleak and the comic aspects of trench warfare on the Aragon front, the Barcelona uprising in May 1937, his nearly fatal wounding just two weeks later, and his escape from Barcelona into France after the P.O.U.M. was suppressed.

Intriguing
Revisado: 02-02-25
Well written, as one might expect, a silent bit of history sounding familiar.
Detailed without becoming drudgery.
Some great dry humor.
I never tired of the performance.

Historia
Born just outside London in 1942, Glyn Johns was 16 years old at the dawn of rock and roll. His big break as a producer came on the Steve Miller Band's debut album, Children of the Future. He went on to engineer or produce iconic albums for the best in the business, including Abbey Road with the Beatles. Even more impressive, Johns was perhaps the only person on a given day in the studio who was entirely sober, and so he is one of the most reliable and clear-eyed insiders to tell these stories today.

Devious but necessary means?
Revisado: 10-06-24
An eye-opening listen.
The author did some pretty good digging for this book, which for the most part was even keeled, however, he couldn’t resist a little political view.
Not bad enough to throw out though.
The performance was good but the style and cadence became annoying after a while and didn’t seem “serious” enough given the subject matter.
Still, it is a worthy listen.

Historia
When singer, musician, and broadcast journalist Malka Marom had the opportunity to interview Joni Mitchell in 1973, she was eager to reconnect with the performer that she'd first met late one night in 1966 at a Yorkville coffeehouse. More conversations followed over the next four decades of friendship, and it was only after Joni and Malka completed their last recorded interview, in 2012, that Malka discovered the heart of their discussions: the creative process.

Interesting but what a grind
Revisado: 09-13-24
A child of the folk hippie movement she has ended up being a part of what that crowd was shouting against. Interesting to get info on her life, the whole audio book became a grind hearing one individual “play” both sides. I would have liked actual recording of the interviewer interviewee, which should’ve happened given they were both recording artists… for crying out loud. It would’ve been supreme to actually hear a Joni and her guitar version instead of the performer just reading lyrics, but oh yeah, who gets the money? 60’s child still wants a check

Narcissism at its finest
Revisado: 07-25-24
I really enjoy Burt Bacharach’s ability to write music so thought I would listen to this.
Some very interesting subject lines but all the personal adventures Burt experienced with various women got old very quick.
We’ve all experienced heart rending loss, so for him to spend so much time on his loss was very tiring.
He’s pretty self-absorbed so I suppose that’s what makes him such a great composer

This info is condensed because the topic is so large, yet reconstituted in such a way you get what you need to develop your understanding on just how what you’re ingesting so easily in 1st world locations, practically on every street corner, as to what it takes to feed your supposed need.
I worked in the “grocery industry” about 40yrs. This Author hit the nail on the head.
Well done.

A little predictable

Strange story line, the addition of bits of music was a good try for something different.
Once the reader gets to the apex of the story, things get a little too convient in order to wind this short story up.

He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. Moves along and
Revisado: 10-16-23
Fairly supported. For the most part pretty clean language except for one moment, maybe more but really couldn’t finish as the story was a little too cute at times and started to bog once alien communication starts, again fairly well supported how that comes to be, however, weird ancestral theory starts to creep in and I’m starting to lose interest. As for performance, really quite good given how hard it is to speak different characters male and female. I might return to this but might not
