A Good Ending to a Decent Mystery Trilogy

The cormoran strike novels are your standard closed door mystery series. This last novel supersedes the second one in quality, depth, and writing style. We continue to learn more about cormoran strike and Robin, wrapping up most of the loose ends and unanswered questions. Although this series is basically JK Rowling's playground for personal vendettas, this novel is still worthy for your listening pleasure. But skip the second book, that was an absolute waste of time.

Hands down the worst book I’ve read in 2017.

I don’t even know where to start. First of all the main character, jaz, was obviously developed in the mind of a male author. Her character development and personal narrative throughout the book projects and extremely masculine personality. (Which is something I find frustrating because I find it hard to relate to a character that I cannot believe is real!) I don’t think that’s what the author was shooting for however that’s the message that I received. The plot for the book was poorly developed, sloppy, and amateurish. I wrote better science fiction in in middle school. The ending had untidy loose ends, and putting aside the whole “city on the moon thing” was completely unrealistic. I can confidently say that the only reason I finished this book was because I finish every book that I start not because I enjoyed it. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME. The Martian was a one hit wonder, and Artemis isn’t even in the same league. I will be returning this book.

Also the narrator sucks... I mean was that even a British accent?! Ugh...

There are so many faults to the book.
1) you could tell Crichton was rushing the ending, it was open ended and left with a wimpy, melodramatic cliff hanger. (Basically the whole book)
2) the narrator sounds like he is yawning every other paragraph.
3) the science Crichton used to back his andromeda strain is so fictitious is not even interesting.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. :)

I enjoy Card'
s writing, however I found this book in the ender-verse was an in-original version of the Bible.

I loved the first book, Dune. Great story. I tried my best to listent to this part 2 book, Dune Messiah. Got half way through and stopped. It didn't hold my interest. I listen to books while I drive, and this book was putting me to sleep!

I highly recommend Dune
I can't recommend Dune Messiah.

This genre isn't my style. But, if you like action stories with a strong character / hero that is cartoon-like in his invicible tough-guy character .... then this story is worth listening to.

The book is a well told and engaging 'blood & guts' rambo style action story. It wasn't what I was expecting... but once I started listening, the story moved along. Some parts were a bit cliche... and the ending predictable. But, it passed the time while I drove to work and home. Good narration with good voice changes.

Would you listen to The Sisters again? Why?

Wouldn't listen again... one time is enough. Good story, worth listening to, but hardly a 'classic' worth listening to you again and again

What did you like best about this story?

Well written - engaging

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Scott Brick is a terrific narrator. Easy voice to listen to. Well done. (Listen to

What did you love best about Dune?

It's been 20+ years since I read the book.... really enjoyed hearing the story again. Well read. Good story that engaged me completely.

What did you like best about this story?

Good story.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

One negative: It seems that the partucular actor reading the part of each character seemed to change from time to time. I'm not sure why, but the voice behind a particular character would change as the story went on. It was still easy enough to follow... but this was a bit annoying. Scott Brick is my favorite narrator.

Entertaining -- like a decent "made for TV movie"

Total

The audio book was entertaining and engaging. It kept my interest -- and I never felt like it was time to turn it off. But, the story was a bit of a cliche -- and unbelievable at times. In summary... it was a like watching a decent "made for TV movie of the week". Entertaining.. but not literary. Narrator did a fine job.
