My favorite buy this author
Revisado: 11-12-24
This was a clean Regency romance. I always love the friendship becomes romance stories. I would’ve enjoyed this more. Had it been narrated by someone who could truly do a British accent. Glad that it was at least attempted. Regencies should not be red with an American accent for sure. It takes away from the story. This was a very enjoyable and interesting read and will be reading this again. My favorite buy this author

Just OK
Revisado: 11-12-24
This was a clean historical romance with a little adventure and mystery thrown in. I absolutely love this genre myself, however, this book was just OK. The romance wasn’t all that great to me and the mystery was predictable. I loved secrets and suitors by this author, which has led me to read more of her books. This is not my favorite and would not read again.

Easy to read and educational
Revisado: 02-26-23
I have read several books on plant-based eating. Dr. Barnard’s writings are easy to digest while remaining highly informative and tied to the science. This book provides evidence-based nutrition information for addressing not only brain health, but weight loss and other health concerns as well. The primary focus is, of course, on brain health. I very much enjoyed this Listen.. I still find myself puzzled as to how I am to access the recipes, however.

A radio drama style audiobook
Revisado: 11-17-22
I’m a big fan of the Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch so I gave this a try. It certainly doesn’t come anywhere close to that awesomeness, but it was a enjoyable radio drama style audiobook to listen to while I was getting some housework done. Probably not for your pickiest Sherlock fans or people who don’t like radio dramas.

An interesting twist on my favorite genre
Revisado: 05-14-22
This is a clean Regency Romance where the mail love interest has autism spectrum disorder, or Asperger‘s. I noticed this when I started the story, and thought it would not be so interesting to me simply because of the reason why I read this genre. However! This was such an interesting and enjoyable read! I loved the character development and I really appreciated the portrayal of a person with Asperger‘s in such a loving way. It’s not your typical story, but I promise you will not regret giving this one a try!

Historia
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

Cozy Victorian mystery, just right!
Revisado: 03-04-22
This series was exactly what I was looking for! I love historical fiction, and I prefer a cozy not so mellow dramatic mystery. I’m not interested in blood, guts, and gore, nor do I want to lay awake anxious because the story is so intense. These characters were fun to hang out with. The mystery was interesting and held my attention. The historical setting was right up my alley.
In this story, a widowed woman observes the societal requirements for morning, and then strikes out on her own with her young daughter living independently in London. Things seem to be going OK as she’s getting settled in, when questions arise about how her husband died. Unbeknownst to her, she has also taken up residence right next-door to a man who knows the details of her husband‘s death. Throughout the story she participates in trying to figure out what really happened to her husband, and who is trying to make her look like the guilty party. There are twists and turns as you spend time with this interesting cast of characters. And I, who usually see everything coming, did not see the end of this book coming! It was such a fun read, and I immediately went and got the next book. I blew through this entire series within about a week, only to realize there was one more book left that isn’t out yet. I am eagerly awaiting the next book.
As for the narration, I felt it was adequate. The narrator does use different voices successfully, however, as other reviewer‘s have stated, she has a somewhat annoying way of reading the lines. It was somewhat distracting to me, but I don’t think this would bother anyone but the most picky of listeners, like me. The rest of her narration was good. Once I tuned out this annoying thing she does where she’s sort of ends everything like a question, I was so enthralled with the story that I didn’t care so much.

Sweet Regency romance without being the same old story
Revisado: 03-02-22
I always enjoy this narrator and she doesn’t let me down in this story either! I read so many sweet Regency romances, and I do love them. Their predictability is fine with me, but it is always refreshing to find someone able to put a new twist on my favorites. The story contained interesting characters that I enjoyed getting to know. I felt like this story had the perfect balance of sweet regency romance elements with the added tension of a bad guy in the background. I recommend this book to people who like clean Regency romances but who are not sticklers for all of the rules of regencies being respected down to the letter. While I recognize that some of the things depicted probably would not have been allowed socially, I overlooked these easily and simply enjoyed the story. If you liked this book, I also recommend that you read the other books in the series. I loved them all!

A clean regency romance that I’ll read again
Revisado: 09-19-21
I will admit it took me a little while to get “hooked” on this one, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. It’s an interesting look at how being unbalanced, even when your being dutiful, can be harmful. As always, I enjoyed this author’s humor. I definitely recommend that you read this if you are a proper regency romance fan.

Clean, sweet regency romance
Revisado: 09-19-21
I had read the second book in this series, A proper charade” soe time ago when I stumbled across this one. I wish I had gone back and reread it before I read thsi one, although it is really not necessary. I enjoy the humor this author brings to her novels. I do think she bends the “rules” of the regency romance society a bit, and as another reviewer said, she doesn’t take into consideration the likely consequences that would have befallen a woman during regency society. That being said, I genuinely enjoyed the story anyway. I think I liked the characters and the humor most of all in this novel. I definitely recommend it for a relaxing pleasant read.

Clean regency romance
Revisado: 09-19-21
This was a sweet, clean romance. I enjoyed the story and the character development. I will say that for those who are sticklers for the regency romance rules, you may find yourself annoyed with the breaking of the rules that this author does. Some of wht the characters do is not in line with what would have been considered appropriate. The family members of the heroan would not have looked the other way as they seem to in this novel. That being said, I enjoyed it anyway and still recommend it.
