Historia
Phoenix was grown and raised among other genetic experiments in New York's Tower 7. She is an "accelerated woman" - only two years old but with the body and mind of an adult, Phoenix's abilities far exceed those of a normal human. Still innocent and inexperienced in the ways of the world, she is content living in her room speed reading ebooks, running on her treadmill, and basking in the love of Saeed, another biologically altered human of Tower 7.

A powerful woman. A compelling story.
Revisado: 07-05-18
This is an excellent prequel to Who Fears Death. Phoenix's story is an epic tale of a woman coming into her power and fighting against a huge government conspiracy that seeks to enslave her and so many others. Okorafor has done it again. The Book of Phoenix shines as brilliantly as is protagonist.

Historia
Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

A dazzling pirate tale
Revisado: 05-07-18
Alosa is a female pirate, captain and daughter of the Pirate King. On a secret mission for her father, she's captured by a band of young pirates (you can see where this is going) and forced to fend for herself.
Alosa has a wonderful array of tricks up her sleeves and secrets of her own. Her sass and smarts, matched with the clever (and very attractive) Ryden, kept me reading well into the night.
There's a bit of fantasy in there, as well, which only makes the book sparkle a bit more for me. Definitely a light-hearted read that fans of Pirates of the Caribbean will enjoy!

Historia
Camellia Beauregard is a Belle. In the opulent world of Orleans, Belles are revered, for they control beauty, and beauty is a commodity coveted above all else. In Orleans, the people are born gray, they are born damned, and only with the help of a Belle and her talents can they transform and be made beautiful. But it's not enough for Camellia to be just a Belle. She wants to be the favorite - the Belle chosen by the queen of Orleans to live in the royal palace, to tend to the royal family and their court, to be recognized as the most talented Belle in the land.

A stunning debut
Revisado: 04-04-18
Welcome to a world where beauty is controlled by the Belles, but who controls the Belles?
Clayton weaves an intriguing story from start to finish. I saw someone describe this book's story as biting into a delectable cupcake to find a rotten, decaying center and it's the best metaphor I've ever seen.
The Belles has layers and layers of mystery, thrills, and sisterhood. You don't want to miss out on this!

Historia
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city - a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent - but he's one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music.

A fantastic story
Revisado: 01-21-18
Written like an elegant symphony, This Savage Song is the story of two people thrown together as a war between monsters and humans threatens to ravage the city.
I loved Kate and August, each of them brought to life by the author and the narrator. They're total opposites, but they work well together. I especially loved August's determination to be strong and good, despite being a monster.
Full of twists and turns, fans of supernatural, urban fantasy, or gritty fantasy won't be able to get enough of This Savage Song.

WILD SEED takes place over centuries and includes themes of oppression by race, gender, and ability. Although one of Butler's early books, I found it hard to put down. Definitely pick this up if you're looking for a saga of two immortals with very different worldviews.

Revisado: 12-07-17
I loved Sufficiently Advanced Magic, which has an ace MC and a really, really, REALLY complicated but cool Magix system. The author weaves an unbelievable amount of detail easily into the story and I loved the adventure from start to finish. Can't wait for the next one!

Historia
Gender-fluid Sallot Leon is a thief, and a good one at that. But Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and to get closer to the nobles who destroyed home. So when auditions to become a member of The Left Hand - the Queen's personal assassins - are announced, Sal jumps at the chance to infiltrate the court and get revenge. But a childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the audition: a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers.

Take a wild ride!
Revisado: 09-24-17
Sal is one of the most enjoyable characters I've read in a long time. I loved going with her as she robbed, schemed, and killed her way through the book, eyes always on the prize. Sometimes it seems like teen fiction assassins are that in name only--not here. Death has consequences and revenge is a dish best served cold.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.
