The narrator tried, but couldn't save this book

That said, the story was... average, I guess? that isn't bad inherently. I enjoyed the book overall, but the sex scenes were just awkward in the verbiage. The last sex scene got a little better in wording. but it was also kind of goofy. The MC isn't terribly strong, yet he overcomes great odds (which, wow, go figure right?) yet we get no real progression in the latter half of the book.
I'm not a fan of harems or polygamy in my romance, so I'm not rating it poorly for that.
I hope we get more info on the antagonist and shit, and he's not just this aloof holier-than-thou BBEG that we never see again. hard to do given the perspective, but the change at the end to a different person gives me hope.
I will be listening g to the next one in the series, though I will admit I am a bit hesitant to start right away...
the main issue I had were the female characters. they're physically strong, smart, and can do these cool things but they just feel so weak as characters. like, they're only there to serve as a place for our MC to deposit his proverbial load and save from situations they should feasibly be able to handle.
if the author is reading this, keep it up, because like I said: I did enjoy it overall.

The tutorial is over. The rules of Pyresouls have changed for the worse. Defeating the Burgon Beast should’ve been the end of it, but it was only the beginning. Beating the next boss monster that invades Earth will only stave off the Collapse, not prevent it. The future devoid of all life but a single Pyre proves that. Jacob refuses to accept that future. He’s done playing their games. Even if he must walk through the fires of despair and glory to be rid of them.
