Historia
During a summer sojourn in Ramsgate, Elizabeth Bennet meets Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy—an irresistible, eminent, and seemingly unobtainable model of an ideal gentleman. Following a whirlwind romance with Mr. Darcy and a blossoming friendship with Georgiana Darcy, her life is forever altered. When Darcy disappears under mysterious circumstances, the new Mrs. Darcy’s world is thrown into chaos. A friend of Darcy’s provides much-needed support as Elizabeth is confronted with rumours insinuating lewd explanations for his absence. Could any of them be true?

A Charming P&P Variation
Revisado: 11-17-24
I’m new to the world of Austen variations, but Kelly Miller’s reimagining of this classic tale was just the medicine I needed! Charming and richly painted with accurate historical detail, Miller takes us beyond Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam’s courtship, into their marriage—a marriage with a healthy dose of intriguing secrets and subterfuge. This was just lovely. And the narrator’s performance was excellent!

Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Excellent and Affecting
Revisado: 08-26-24
A brilliantly imagined and written retelling of Huckleberry Finn from Jim’s (James’s) POV. Should be required reading alongside Twain’s original. Beautifully narrated performance with nuance, poignant moments, and wit. I’ll be thinking about this story for a long time.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.
