Historia
Jane Austen fan Amelia Bennett sneaks away from a dull tour of an English country manor, only to run into a man more dashing than Mr. Darcy himself. About to lose his ancestral home to family debts, charming aristocrat Tom Calder invites his American guest to join him in drinking his way through the estate’s priceless wine collection. But when they wake in his bed the next morning, they’re convinced that in their drunken haze they witnessed a murder. Problem is, the body has vanished and no one believes them.

author on a soapbox
Revisado: 05-31-24
The author gets on a soap box several times throughout the story. she gets into a lot of therapy type opinions and tries to shove them down the listeners throat. also, apparently if your love language is physical affection your partner should give you hugs all the time even if physical affection is not their love language. The author is somehow obsessed with hugs. The female reader was great, the male reader did fine when doing male voices but not very well with the female voices. then there were some major horndog parts. I really don't understand if the author's point was to write a sexy, steamy book, a mystery book or to make her point about what she thinks is case for therapy and trauma etc. I honestly cannot recommend this book I don't even understand the author's purpose.

terrible. The reader has an annoying voice, sorry. you can't tell from the summary, but the author tries to slip in Christian witnessing of God which is also obnoxious. surprisingly, I did like the Hallmark movie version of this book.

Carol should have stuck with the original
Revisado: 04-16-23
The first time I read this book 14 years ago, I found the positive affirmations so helpful. As I'm going through a difficult period in my life again, I decided to buy this audio version (I must have lost my copy) with the 20-year update. All I can say is, Carol, you should have stuck with your original. The 20-year update is nothing but Carol bragging nonstop. with 60 chapters, this is nothing but redundant and obnoxious. It really detracts from the message of the book. If you can find the original copy of this book, stick to that.

Revisado: 03-09-23
this was a mediocre mystery at best. I really don't even have words to describe it. I was pretty bored throughout, I kept listening and waiting for something exciting to happen and it never did. Then the book ended.

RIP Marion!
Revisado: 01-03-23
Well, it wasn't an original MC Beaton, which means the characters weren't always acting like themselves and occasionally saying things out of character. But, I'm a die-hard fan and have read all of the Agatha Raisin books at least 3x each, so I'm a tough critic. Still worth the read and purchase price.

Eh
Revisado: 01-03-23
My main complaint is with this new narrator. You could knock me down with a feather if he is actually a Scot. His accent is very stage-y. But worse than that, he doesn't differentiate his voice enough between the characters and so it was really hard to follow along and know who was supposed to be speaking. The storyline was okay, but unfolded much differently than a classic Hamish Macbeth.
