Historia
The aliens tested humans on an individual basis for miner rentals. Do well on your pilot test, get a spaceship, sign up with a corp, and you can mine the belt. For a puddle-jumper pilot like me, yeah, I was so interested I became obsessed. When I finally tested, I performed above and beyond, being offered a contract for some better than a miner - Earth's First Starfighter.

Meh
Revisado: 04-11-25
Started out ok, but got worse and worse. The plot was hard to follow and didn't make sense. It's not clear what exactly the MC does to be better than everyone else, at least not in a believable way (oooh, he actually read the documentation). Lot's of people have the same skill and determination the MC shows, so why is he special? He feels kind of a Mary Sue. Also, some of the accents were so thick they couldn't be understood. I don't think it mattered anyway because inexplicable things kept happening for no reason. Also, somehow they always have no money and a ton of money all at the same time depending on what the plot called for. I'm giving up with 33 hours to go.

Historia
When magic is up, electricity dies, cars stall, and skyscrapers tumble; when it's down, phones and guns work, and defensive spells can't protect your house from the creatures who stalk the streets. Equally dangerous are the competing factions of The Pack - a highly organized and military clan who governs Atlanta's were-bears, -wolves, and -hyenas - versus the Masters of the Dead, power and knowledge-hungry necromancers whose minds control hordes of blood-crazed vampires.

Meh, it was ok.
Revisado: 11-26-24
This book was just good enough that I didn't give up on it and return it. It's not bad, but it is very average. The narrator didn't pronounce a few things correctly (at least how I have always heard the words pronounced, so that was annoying. The big premise of the book, that sometimes magic works and sometimes it doesn't really only felt like an inconvenience to the plot. You could have had almost the exact same story without the switches between tech and magic. I guess I ultimately just didn't get what the author was trying to do. Maybe I missed something, but the final fight was anticlimactic and felt somewhat inconsequential with the epilogue. Felt like a big setup for a big reveal at the end, but with no payoff. maybe you have to get to the sequels for the payoff?

Historia
Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady—ah, lady of a certain age—who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

Revisado: 09-15-24
I don't listen to a lot of murder mysteries, but someone really recommended it to me. After dealing with a little bit of culture unfamiliarity, the story really gets going and comes to a satisfying conclusion. Now I feel like I need a good cup of tea!

worse than the original audio
Revisado: 05-15-24
The graphical audio version skips parts of the original audio version, so I kept being confused about what was being referenced or going on. Also, not all the voice actors do a great job, while the original voice actor is excellent!

Historia
Reidon Ward's first semester at the Galens Institute hasn't been without reward. In just over half a year he's gone from the weakest cadet at school to one of the strongest in his class, and there's no one left who would argue that his Device, Shido, isn't the most terrifying CAD they've ever laid eyes on. Still, Rei knows that his climb has barely begun, like he knows that the true fight is only just starting. After all… The Sectionals tournament has arrived. Rei, along with Aria, Viv, Catcher, and a couple unexpected squadmates, are about to face the first real battle of their careers.

It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. Some parts just don't make sense
Revisado: 11-07-23
The MCs actions don't make sense. They're inexplicably stubborn and determined to be bad at everything, until the plot inexplicably demands they suddenly be really good at things.
Also, it feels like the book needs better editing or quality control, because either one of the main characters is incredibly forgetful (forgetting they leveled or learned an important skill), or they're lying (without expressly saying so), or the author/editor just screwed up while moving parts of the story around.
Also, the plot relies far too often on characters making terrible decisions. Just not enough natural sense across the board.

Historia
Most days, Sarya doesn't feel like the most terrifying creature in the galaxy. Most days, she's got other things on her mind. Like hiding her identity among the hundreds of alien species roaming the corridors of Watertower Station. Or making sure her adoptive mother doesn't casually eviscerate one of their neighbors. Again. And most days, she can almost accept that she'll never know the truth - that she'll never know why humanity was deemed too dangerous to exist.

Meh, didn't finish
Revisado: 05-02-23
Tried several times to finish but couldn't. The story had some really interesting aspects, but was hard to follow and I was really struggling. Ultimately, I found myself thinking "I don't care about any of these characters or what happens to them", which is a sign to me that it's time to move on.
The story was good enough, however, that I won't be returning it, which is unusual, so that's something.

Not as good as the original, but still solid
Revisado: 11-29-20
I didn't love it, but it was worth a listen. There's certainly plenty to be desired with the writing and character development, but if you want more deep dives into the pop culture of the 80s with plenty of more modern references thrown in, you probably won't mind.
The writing wasn't bad enough stop me, though it did get boring at times.
