Historia
Wildlife and monsters have been stirred from their homes by intruders, both in the continent of Chandrar and the Empire of Tiqr, led by Nsiia, the Empress of Beasts, and in Liscor's dungeon, where a certain skeleton continues to help both friend and foes in the only way he knows how. In Liscor, the election will result in a new group of leaders for the city. But is that for the better or worse?

Andrea Parsneau deserves some sort of award for her performance. She's definitely one of the best narrators out there.

Potential lost due to poor editing
Revisado: 06-11-24
I couldn't get all the way through this book. The author is too big a fan to let the information speak for itself. There are multiple personal interjections that provide no value, including unnecessary name drops. The author assumes that the reader knows all of the changes mentioned and believes that they're superior (which is not necessarily true). There are multiple examples of "Deming was in location X. Person Y was also there at that time and they went on to do great thing Z" with no real correlation between the two. It feels like more time is spent talking about Deming's influences than talking about him or what he's done.
Overall it was a painful read of what seems like could have been an interesting person.

My least favorite Wander Inn novel
Revisado: 10-09-23
This was definitely my least favorite Wandering Inn novel. Almost nothing of substance happened in the whole novel and very little took place in the Inn or involving Erin. In many ways, this whole book is the denouement of the previous one.
The story is suffering from having too many characters, many of which I have trouble caring about. The older characters had distinct personalities I found interesting, but the story has grown to spend most time with myriad characters in far off lands. While there is a pleasant lack of Laken, there is a growing amount of Flos. Ryoka is again almost unmentioned.
Andrea continues to knock it out of the park with her wide variety of distinct character voices.

Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

Not for me
Revisado: 07-21-23
Much as mentioned in the afterward, this book was not for me. I have great respect and admiration for the impressionistic prose. It had a mystical quality I appreciated, but the lack of concrete plot or even story beats left it feeling a bit like an unedited reality show.
I'm glad this book exists as something I can ponder, but it's definitely not for me (and there's nothing wrong with that).

second person narrative
Revisado: 06-23-23
The plot of the story is interesting, but narrating in second person and switching characters can be confusing. The narration doesn't help with this problem, either.
Also, it is thick with British slang, which is not bad, but is something of which you should be aware of you're not familiar.

Good story, bad audio editing
Revisado: 05-01-23
I enjoyed the story, binging through the last few hours.
The audio editing of this book is substandard, though. Even ignoring the volume and voice quality changes that are common between recording clips, there were significant issues that took away from the content of the book. For example, there were multiple unfinished sentences, like the audio was trimmed too short. There were also strange pauses in the middle of sentences, like too much blank space was left between recordings. There were a number of times I pointlessly skipped back to re-listen because the audio had some sort of issue. It feels a little like the audio team was rushed and forgot to check the final product.
That said, the narrator continues to do a good job separating characters and giving them personality.

Historia
When unforeseen circumstances during an innovative—and unsanctioned—commercial asteroid-mining mission leave two crew members stranded, those who make it back must engineer a rescue, all while navigating a shifting web of global political alliances and renewed Cold War tensions. With Earth governments consumed by the ravages of climate change and unable to take the risks necessary to make rapid progress in space, the crew must build their own next-gen spacecraft capable of mounting a rescue in time for the asteroid's next swing by Earth.

Too much superfluous detail
Revisado: 02-10-23
This story suffers from the author adding too much superfluous detail to the story. There is a tremendous amount of effort in explaining how things work in ways that don't contribute to the story or plot. It is one thing to have a well thought out world, but another to spend a large percentage of the book trying to prove it.
The plot was ok. I wasn't addicted to it, but it wasn't bad either. Despite their tribulations, I'm surprised at how well things went for them, though. This is probably my least favorite of Suarez's books (which is not saying much, as I have really enjoyed them so far). There are still plenty of interesting ideas in there.
The narrator did a good job making characters distinct and covering a wide range of accents. It was a pleasant listen.

More gimmick than story
Revisado: 01-28-22
The story was pretty mediocre and voice acting was average. I didn't really care about the characters much and the chemistry between them was very uneven. I think it was more of an effort to try to create a virtual soundscape than a real attempt at an engaging story, but both fell short. There was a lot of panning sounds back and forth and dead space in the story filled with sound effects. It was a lot like listening to the audio of a bad movie.
I think the creators should spend some time analyzing old school radio shows and learn from what made them engaging.

Historia
The city of Celum is not much like Liscor at all. While Erin is surrounded by familiar, human faces, she’s far from home and without her inn. At the same time, a certain ill-tempered Lyonette is squatting in Erin’s inn, and Goblins are on the move. The Goblin Lord’s threat reaches across the entire region, and the Redfang tribe has rallied against him with the Floodplains tribe, although their Chieftains do not agree on some crucial matters. This winter, there is only snow, Goblins, magic, and iambic pentameter.

Not at the Wandering Inn
Revisado: 05-11-21
The vast majority of this book does not take place at or around the inn. A majority of it does not involve the normal main characters, in which I have invested over a hundred hours via the previous books. Most of my negativity about this book is due to looking forward to the story and the characters and it turning out to be more of a collection of side stories.
I found it hard to care about the new characters. They were novel, but more as a concept than something I wanted to follow. They were relatively shallow so far: concepts without real personality.
Andrea Parsneau crushes it, as normal. She breathes life into the text and gives it personality. I cannot imagine the books without her. My only complaint is that, due to the number of characters, some of them can sound pretty similar. As the world grows, it's harder and harder to have distinct voices for every person, particularly as groups of similar characters come together.
All this said, I have already pre-ordered the next book and look forward to it.
