Five stars if only it were unabridged!

Total
4 out of 5 stars

This is a fascinating look at Ted Bundy through the eyes of someone who knew him, as she says, about as well as anyone could. Ann Rule's narration is saved only by the fact that she's Ann Rule, but the story is fascinating, as she had a very unique perspective on this prolific serial killer. I am sad that it was abridged, but I'm still glad I got it.

Very narrow, with questionable "science."

Both this book and Brizendine's other offering, The Female Brain, left me angry and disgusted. Not only is her science questionable, but the extremely narrow view of both men and women is extremely off-putting. She is clearly writing about the average, addressing only the superficial. I give it one star only because it is short.

Very Poorly Written

This book is not for the reader who enjoys analytical true crime, or decent writing. If one were to remove all of the redundant language (such as "easily and effortlessly," etc.) the length would be reduced by half. I didn't know who Robi Ludwig was until I started listening. Not recommended.

Detailed, but Interesting

Others have complained that this book has entirely too much detail and seemingly tangential exposition. As a Kansan familiar with both Kansas culture and the Wichita area, I find these details relevant and fascinating. My only real criticism of the narration is that Mr. Sklar mispronounces several regional names (Arkansas River, Menninger Clinic), which is, I suppose, understandable. Less forgivable is his mispronunciation of the word "synod." Otherwise, the narration is very good.
