This book is revolutionary in the best way. I had never considered practicing the rosary, though I have long felt a devotion to the Divine Mother. Yet, as much as I have loved her in her forms as Kali or Tara, I never felt quite like those forms “belonged” to me. I always felt like a guest. I couldn’t settle on a mantra or prayer to use consistently to express my devotion to Her. This book helped me to connect to the Mother in a way that feels like it’s fully “mine,” connected to my roots all the way back to the practice my European ancestors had of offering roses to the Goddess when they still lived in harmony with the earth, long before the advent of Christianity. I am so grateful.

Not only is the information itself pure gold (I didn’t realize this kind of thing could be taught — let alone taught so effectively), the writing is also very engaging. This is one of the few books I wanted to read again as soon as I finished it. In fact, that’s what I’m going to do now.

This is a fantastic book. Second time I’ve read it. I was foolish enough not to implement it fully the first time. Don’t be foolish like me, implement it right away! The info is gold, the writing is awesome, and the profit potential real.

I was not expecting to learn quite so much from this book. It’s already improved my writing, and I will keep going through it again and again.

It’s worth learning from the 4 points the author brings forth, but it’s far from a true formula to create a bestseller. While bestsellers all have these qualities, not all books that have these qualities are bestsellers. There’s only a brief nod to the actual quality of writing, and no mention of building trust and relatability with the reader, which the author doesn’t really do in this book. It’s presented as the result of a research study, but I suspect it was not a very thorough study. I honestly felt disappointed in the quality of the book. That said, there is definitely some valuable information in it, the formula IS quite useful (though it’s not enough in its own) and I will take some of the insights forward in my own writing.

Stunning, a Revolutionary Book of Exquisite Beauty

This book is nothing short of revolutionary. Yes it is “ordinary,” but it is not simplistic… it is a masterpiece of stunning brilliance.

I read a LOT of books, and this is hands-down one of the best books I have ever read. It brought me to tears exactly five times.

It’s exquisitely accessible to anyone of any background (especially those who don’t consider themselves spiritual or religious, as well as those who do). No matter where your life path has taken you, you will find yourself relating to the stories she shares from her own life and others’.

Yet being accessible doesn’t in any way detract from the depth of its wisdom. In fact, I believe what Starr teaches about finding the sacred in the ground of ordinary life to be one of the most important and revolutionary teachings of our time. She is inviting us to reclaim our direct connection with the divine, in the midst of our ordinary human lives.

I expected this book to be about things like opening to the sacred in daily life while watching the sun rise or chopping vegetables. That’s certainly a part of it. But what I didn’t expect was it to so thoroughly embrace the messy, imperfect, deeply-human side of life. Hearing her say that she would sometimes get angry at her kids, that she had a poor sense of direction, that she’s sensitive to criticism, and that she has a pattern of being too busy all hit me straight in the heart because I also share these foibles. Hearing her bless those qualities as part of her/our sacred humanness helped me bless my own wild, messy, imperfect self.

Ordinary Mysticism is also incredibly funny. I laughed out loud in every chapter, sometimes to my own detriment (I woke up the baby once or twice).

I want to order copies for all my friends and read it a second and third time. It is such a beautiful gift to the world at this critical time in our history.

A beautifully-written, heart-opening, heartbreaking, and heart-healing story. Mirabai’s honesty and depth of insight combine with a truly wild and magnificent story, threaded through with her love for her daughter.
