Historia
A murderous fall down icy stairs is nearly the death of Anna Hitchcock, the much-beloved "American Agatha Christie" and Christopher Holmes' former mentor. Anna's plea for him to host her annual winter writing retreat touches all Kit's sore spots - traveling, teaching writing classes, and separation from his new lover, J.X. Moriarity. For J.X., Kit's cancellation of yet another romantic weekend is the death knell of a relationship that has been limping along for months. But that's just as well, right?

Exhausting
Revisado: 10-13-20
If you want hotness between Christopher and JX or whatever his name, you'll get it.....with buckets of ice cold water before, between, and after. As with the Adrien English series, the first time between the two main characters is painful to read/hear AS IN AWKWARD. It seems like Lanyon always manages to kill a "mood" and the moment that is supposed to be special. The inner dialog in Christopher 's head during his first time made an excruciating point that being a bottom is a negative thing. Not to mention, Christopher's constant back and forth, hot and cold was exhausting. Sometimes, I feel like I can hear the echos of the author's opinions in the way Christopher in this series and Jake in the Adrien English series have such a difficult time accepting and letting go. It seems like I totally hated this series. I actually did not or I wouldn't have purchased the 2nd book. This story really is good and the narrator superb. I just found myself tired of the back and forth banter of Christopher.

Historia
Suffering from writer's block and frustrated with his tentative relationship with hot but closeted LAPD Homicide Detective Jake Riordan, gay bookseller and mystery writer Adrien English travels to northern California where he finds a body in his front drive. By the time the sheriffs arrive the body has disappeared, and Adrien once again finds himself playing amateur sleuth. But when the game turns deadly, Adrien turns to Jake. Jake may be confused about some things, but keeping his lover alive is not one of them - no matter what the cost.

AMAZING narration is what made the story!
Revisado: 04-26-19
I enjoyed listening to the narration and Chris Patton is probably why I keep coming back to listen to this story over and over. I love this series! I really do but what keeps it from being the BEST ever is the fact that the conflict between Adrien and Jake are left open in some sense and there just isn't enough closure in the scenes. Lanyon leaves too much unsaid and it seems a rug is pulled over some of the resentment that Adrien feels towards Jake and essentially, he "allows" Jake's behavior to just simply be. I often wondered if the writer's opinion of man on man kissing became apparent in the scene between Jake and Adrien when Jake told Adrien that he could see all his pores up close "unlike the soft skin of a girls". There just wasn't any closure to alleviate the insult and it was frustrating as hell. The first time scene which is a big milestone for the two is turned into some sort of joke with the use of sunscreen as lubricant. Suncreen? Really? After all the amazing and heavy heart-string tugs of angst these two go through, this is the comfort the anticipating readers are finally rewarded with- a Forest Gump type of offer to "f**k", sunscreen lubricant, and the clumsy bumping of heads. This story has so much more potential on top of how great it is already. I wished Lanyon would go back and clarify or add additional details so that so much isn't left up the imaginations of the readers. Other than the non-closure issues, the story is really, really good b/c I seem to keep coming back to listen; despite its short comings.

Historia
Lover of fine poetry and lousy choose-your-own-adventure novels, Professor Sebastian Swift was once the bad-boy darling of the literati. The only lines he does these days are Browning, Frost, and Cummings. Even his relationship with the hot, handsome Wolfe Neck Police chief, Max Prescott, is healthy. When one of his most talented students comes to him bruised and begging for help, Swift hands over the keys to his Orson Island cabin - only to find out that the boy's father is dead and the police are suspicious.

Josh Lanyon is what keeps my hope alive...
Revisado: 09-08-18
This is yet another book by Lanyon that instantly had me at attention. Like Adrien English, what separates this book from all the rest is that Lanyon has a depth to write stories in a serious tone which entail serious, real life issues and yet, she cleverly adds touches of light-hearted humor to bring readers out of a too-solemn mood. Swift's drug addiction truly gave me a glimpse into what addicts suffer on a daily basis and left me thankful I've never suffered such an affliction. As well, the story had intense but pleasurable angst between Swift and Max that I can never get enough of...bc I cannot find. Thank you Josh for "getting it" and knowing what it takes to write a great book! Looking forward to more.

Stopped listening halfway thru...3 days in.
Revisado: 06-14-17
It's a matter of opinion I know, and not really anything monumental unless you are a particular type of reader like myself. The older, dark, strong, mysterious, captain pirate and a meek and fair and weaker boy....all my cup of tea....up until the captain takes a female at a brothel in front of the boy. I endured it and decided to continue and reluctantly accepted the outcome of that scene. But, I stopped listening completely when when the big, strong, captain, pirate man became the bottom to the young and meek, naive boy. Not what I was hoping for after listening for 3 days with such anticipation for their actual first time. Again, it's only a matter of opinion. for me, it was enough to not continue even if things changed after. it's all about the character and some things just ruin a character completely for me. in this case, the protective, older, wiser, and stronger man just didn't seem so much so after that scene.

Slow, deep voice for outgoing, chiper Jory. HUH??
Revisado: 12-22-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Oh, the book was for me. I have read it about 4 times already. I actually wanted to hear it again but on Audible b/c I was working. The first time around reading was good. But after the second and third, I truly, truly appreciated every single ounce!!!!! LOVE JORY SO MUCH!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Matter of Time: Vol. 1?
There were many memorable parts. I love the back and forth between Sam and Jory....especially when Sam told Jory he wasn't taking the relationship further than the case and that he had plans to marry a woman. I was floored.
How could the performance have been better?
Performance from the audible book? DISAPPOINTING!! I wasn't expecting Jory to have a women's voice, but at least it could have fit his personality a little better. Instead, it was dry and flat and LOW, LOW, LOW. There was no emotion whatsoever. I kept picturing Robert from Everybody Love's Raymond instead of Jory. This should explain it all.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I had a lot of reaction to the book. Anger, jealousy for Jory, sadness, and EXCITEMENT!

The cops think he's trying to divert suspicion from himself - with the exception of sexy and homophobic homicide detective Jake Riordan. Is Riordan really such a great detective - or does he have a few secrets of his own? Is his offer to help Adrien on the level or is he out to nail his favorite suspect - to the wall?
