The year is 1985. Benji Cooper is one of the only black students at an elite prep school in Manhattan. He spends his falls and winters going to roller-disco bar mitzvahs, playing too much Dungeons and Dragons, and trying to catch glimpses of nudity on late-night cable TV. Historia
As a doctor, I walk a dangerously delicate balance of being compassionate but not overly invested. The same is true in my personal life - love is a luxury I can’t afford. It isn’t until Dr. Westin Grant breaks down all my walls and offers me a future, I find myself wondering if I’m brave enough to risk my heart. When who I was and who I’ve tried to become collide during my clinical trial, the fate of one patient changes everything.

Perpetuates negative stereotypes about white women of privilege
Revisado: 05-13-23
The main character was self-absorbed and selfish which rendered her unlikable. She played the victim way too much. Rescued at the end but not worthy of the rescue.

Not sure if the challenge was..
Revisado: 02-14-23
Being the token black girl or being a soul that was not grounded in a value system that could withstand being underrepresented or different. I wonder if the lived experience would’ve been any different if Danielle had grown up in predominately black spaces. I still envision her being mean, resentful and letting comparison be the thief of her joy. I think that the emptiness and absence of empathy and substance would’ve still existed. I hope that this next chapter brings Danielle some peace, contentment and faith in something beyond wordly things.

Historia
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

Revisado: 01-24-23
I cannot praise the insights of perspectives that forever First Lady, Michelle Obama shared in this latest book. Everyone can find something in it that serves as a beacon— a clarion call— to do the needed work to achieve our dreams, be a credit to society and to enjoy the journey.

I could not stop listening. The author did a masterful job of humanizing the imprisoned. Barnett took us on a journey of tremendous pain and injustice but kept us hopeful. I’m motivated to help change the inhumanity of the justice system.

Historia
Inheritance is an audiobook about secrets - secrets within families, kept out of shame or self-protectiveness; secrets we keep from one another in the name of love. It is the story of a woman's urgent quest to unlock the story of her own identity, a story that has been scrupulously hidden from her for more than 50 years, years she had spent writing brilliantly, and compulsively, on themes of identity and family history.

A bit too long...
Revisado: 09-09-20
I understand that this experience was traumatic and life altering but the book was about too long by half. Although well written, it was also just too self absorbed and self indulgent. A lot of it should’ve been left in the dear diary space and not shared with the reading public. Mom was portrayed harshly without offering up facts, not just conclusions, in support of this stance. I do hope that the author will let “Dan” and his family live in peace. Shapiro has a full and rich life by all accounts. Move on and live it.

Historia
Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

I want my money back.
Revisado: 11-16-18
so... Sue Watson... I have a question. Did your editor tell you that you had to stretch a five hour story into a ten hour story? Repetitive, redundant with no characters that created any interest or curiosity in the reader. Mean husband who mistreats wife, she drinks, she takes pills, she questions her sanity. Repeat 100 times and you have "Our Little Lies". By the end of the story, I just wanted it to be over. Didn't care what happened.

Historia
Helen is nearly 40, and has, for far too long, had an affair with Matthew, a high-powered, much older, attractive, married man who was once, of course, her boss. After years of being disappointed by missed dates, out-of-the-way restaurants, broken promises, and hushed phone calls, at last Helen realizes it's time to dump Matthew and get on with her life. This, of course, is the exact moment when Matthew decides to leave his wife for her.
