This is one of the few "women's studies/feminist" books that I have truly enjoyed, and I've read and listened to many. I have stopped and backtracked, and relistened to several parts of this book, and I cried and I was angry and I laughed out loud, and I learned so, so much. Thank you to Elizabeth Lesser for this wonderful book. I'm off to buy a hardcopy.

So little wisdom about Dangerous Old Women

First off, the author/narrator's voice and vocal affectations are very annoying. I listed to the whole book at 1.5x speed, because the pacing of her narration is molasses slow and her unnecessary repetitions of words and phrases get aggravating.
I was also disappointed that the stories all revolve around young women and their interactions with old women/spirits, but the old women were not "dangerous" in any way, and they were not the main characters in the stories, but rather teachers/mentors/plot points. And their purpose in each story was to instruct the young protagonists, rather than holding power in their own right or being the protagonists in their stories.
I read Women Who Run with the Wolves in hardcopy form, and it is worth every minute and every letter on the page. But this "lecture series" form really does not play to the author's strengths, IMO.

Narrator has a very annoying speaking rhythm and places inflections strangely, so you have to decipher some sentences for meaning that would probably be clear if you were reading a hardcopy. Narrator also mispronounces many scientific terms and even place names, which is very distracting. Content seems interesting, but there's not enough substance to really justify a full book on the premise, and authors' assertions are not always well supported by evidence but rather are selected to fit the narrative they've decided to create on the topic.

I actively disliked Esha in this book

This was a very weak conclusion to the trilogy. While I liked Esha for the first two books, I found myself rolling my eyes and actively disliking her for this entire book. She was self-indulgent, hypocritical, and self-righteous without deserving any of it. The resolution was rushed and ultimately unsatisfying. And maybe I missed it because I was busy rolling my eyes, but whatever happened to Rakesh?! Lots of loose ends and side plots/relationships that never get resolved.

I listen to over 100 audiobooks each year, and this is one of the best I've listened to in ages. I can't recommend it enough.

I don't usually like these full-cast performances, but this was very entertaining. I'm not sure the musical interludes added much to the story, and some of the background sound effects were a little loud. But overall, it's a good story and I hope the next installment is just as good. (I assume there will be a next installment?)

it was alright, but as a Halloween enthusiast, it just wasn't enough to feel like that author was truly a kindred spirit

A surprisingly satisfying ending to this trilogy

I cannot express how much I have enjoyed this trilogy, and this book is no exception. I don't want to give away anything because the book was just released, but I was surprised and conflicted at different times in the story but I was ultimately satisfied with how the storylines were wrapped up at the end.

Disappointing sequel to Six Crimson Cranes

I was completely transfixed by Six Crimson Cranes and I pre-ordered The Dragon's Promise expecting it to be just as good, but I was disappointed. The main character was much less interesting in this story than in the first, more 2-D, less self-empowered, and ultimately less compelling. A lot of the situations seemed contrived and several times, it felt like the author wrote herself into a corner and just needed deus ex machina to get her characters out of impossible situations and like she was trying to wrap up too many disparate storylines at once. Emily Woo Zeller slays, as always, in her narration.

This is a book that could have been an article. Twelve hours of the author expounding on how he is the smartest person ever and any other thinker who has ever been recognized or awarded (especially with the dreaded Nobel) is a no-talent hack. Ugh. I listened to the whole thing and I feel like there was maybe 10 minutes of actual, interesting insight or information. This book's success is truly a Black Swan. Save your credit and your time and watch a summary video on YouTube.
