Historia
Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind.

Historia
The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

I will be both reading and listening to this book again
Revisado: 02-09-24
I was skeptical when I saw this book, but it won me over quickly. Arnold comes across so genuinely and presents his worldview, story, advice, and lessons learned in a balanced, consumable and inspiring way. The content is both practical and philosophical, addressing issues big and small. I came away really admiring the author and what he stands for. I benefited from reading it. Bravo.

Historia
In Lies My Teacher Told Me, James W. Loewen brings history alive in all its complexity and ambiguity. Beginning with pre-Columbian history and ranging over characters and events as diverse as Reconstruction, Helen Keller, the first Thanksgiving, the My Lai massacre, 9/11, and the Iraq War, Loewen offers an eye-opening critique of existing textbooks, and a wonderful retelling of American history as it should - and could - be taught to American students.

This is an absolute "must read!"
Revisado: 10-15-21
Riveting, interesting, insightful and even more relevant today. The fact that this powerful book was originally written in the 80s is heartbreaking. Nothing in the way we approach history changed between the 80s and when this edition was published in 2007, and nothing has changed since then.
That said it is definitely worth listening to and reading Loewen's deep analysis to come away with an understanding of why and what we should do about it.
I recommend this book highly to any and all people. wow!

Beautifully written, compelling ideas, eye-opening

It was a really quick read on Audible. Very powerful argumebt and straightforward solution to what has been an impossible problem for hundreds of years. This is the first book I have seen that addresses the Black situation in White Supremacist America that is realistic, provides reason to hope, and has a practical plan. Brilliant! I will buy the paper book.
