The plot, settings, and characters are great.

Overwrought writing that seemed like I was wading through mud, in order to finish the story. And the only character I really cared about was Dara.

Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

This is a diary in a few days of Ari‘s life. It is a dance with words, a poet’s Play thing, and just an absolute joy to read. if you are a writer, you will especially love the incredible skill of the author. I’m so grateful it got published and I got to read it.

I was completely enchanted by the story, and it’s characters. I particularly enjoyed Henry, who was subtly funny. The narration was great, except for some unusual, pausing that, at least, for me, was distracting. Overall a fun and wise story.

Wow, I didn’t know Chet and Bernie could get any better!
Revisado: 10-22-23
No one captures the love and fun between a human and their dog better than Spencer Quinn. And so many unwittingly funny, and sometimes profound comments coming from Chet, “a very, very good dog.” All of this couched in a wonderful little mystery. I wish I could get the whole world to read this series of books, it would be be a better world.

A wonderful book, but the dialogue could be better
Revisado: 07-13-23
This is a great story And performance is good. I thought I knew a lot about the horrors of foot binding, but it’s far worse than I knew. Sometimes the dialogue took me out of the story, because she tried to put so much information into it. Educating the reader, whereas the speakers would’ve already known those things. Very minor, though considering, what a good book it is.

I very much enjoyed this book because it was beautifully written. It’s certainly a coming of age story and suitable for YA. And I loved the Irish accent, and the narrator was excellent. I would probably read a sequel if it comes out.

Slow and stilted start for probably a quarter of the way through, then it’s very interesting
Revisado: 05-19-23
This was an interesting story and plot line, after a one dimensional and slow start, which lasts quite a while. I kept wondering how it got the awards it did until it jumped into action, and we got some character development. The quality of writing is just not there to make characters really empathetic. However, overall a fun and exciting read. The narrator was great.
