Historia
From executive producers of The Walking Dead and Travis Beacham, the writer of Pacific Rim, comes a heart-stopping Audible Original featuring a brilliant British cast. It’s the near future and seven years since a comet hit the earth and blotted out the sun. The world is a dark, frozen landscape. And then, beastly creatures emerge and take over. A story of apocalypse, horror, and adventure, Impact Winter is a wholly original new saga created just for Audible with immersive 3D audio that dares you to pop in your earbuds and listen in the dark.

This was more of a movie for the ears than it was a standard audiobook, but I loved it, nonetheless. Fantastic production, killer storyline, and characters you actually care about. I listen to hundreds of audiobooks a year and leave reviews for only the few that I absolutely loved or despised. I LOVED this one!

Lying northeast of Massachusetts, just south of Hell, Arkham County is somewhere you find yourself, not somewhere you ever mean to go. Once you do find it though, you'd better get used to living there, as you may be there for however long you have left to live.

What the heck??
Revisado: 12-30-21
I suspect that somewhere beneath this disjointed performance and excessive use of sound effects is a decent story, but I had to give up halfway through. It almost sounds like it was cobbled together using episodes of a serial podcast. If that's what you're into, this might be for you. If you're looking for a word-for-word reading of a book, you'll likely be as annoyed by the production as I was.

Fantastic story, perfectly narrated.
Revisado: 10-11-21
How have I never read anything by Jonathan Fredrick before?? This guy can WRITE! In my opinion, only James Lee Burke and Stephen King can write their characters off of the page and into my head the way Jonathan Fredrick just did. Masterfully done, and Ari Fliakos was the perfect choice to narrate this story.

"No time to delay. Do what you were born to do. Fame will be yours when you do this." These are the words that ring in the mind of mild-mannered, beloved schoolteacher Cora Gundersun - just before she takes her own life, and many others', in a shocking act of carnage. When the disturbing contents of her secret journal are discovered, it seems certain that she must have been insane. But Jane Hawk knows better.

It pains me to say it, but I'm disappointed.
Revisado: 12-28-17
First, let me say that I LOVE Dean Koontz, both for the stories he tells and the masterful way in which he tells them. I've enjoyed everything I've read from him over the years...until now. This story felt to me like the ball of cotton you pull out of a bottle of aspirin: fluffy filler, put in place to keep parts one and three from breaking each other up into little bits during transport. I was so bored with the story near the end that I actually had to go back and confirm that the audiobook was indeed written by the master himself. It did not help matters that the narrator read the entire book in such a way that she could have recorded the audio from a quiet table in any public library without having the slightest worry of raising the ire of even the strictest of librarians. As much as I'd like to say I won't read the next in the series, we're talking Dean Koontz here...I won't be able to help myself. I'm sure it'll be much, much better.

Historia
Homicide detective Bryan Clauser is losing his mind. How else to explain the dreams he keeps having - dreams that mirror, with impossible accuracy, the gruesome serial murders taking place all over San Francisco? How else to explain the feelings these dreams provoke in him - not disgust, not horror, but excitement? As Bryan and his longtime partner, Lawrence 'Pookie' Chang, investigate the murders, they learn that things are even stranger than they at first seem.

I tried to like it...
Revisado: 08-18-17
After enjoying the first few chapters, I had high hopes for this one. The storyline was captivating, and there were at least a couple compelling characters. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for it to bog down under the weight of far too much information (where's an editor when you need one?), and once the storyline did FINALLY get moving again, it went completely off the rails. By the end, it felt like a twisted children's story reimagined as a horror gore-fest. An entirely too long twisted children's horror-gore fest, at that.

...I guess my expectations were just set too high.
Revisado: 06-26-17
I'm going to keep this short and succinct so I don't accidently drop a spoiler.
There was a sizable cast of characters in this story, but with one or two possible exceptions, they were all so unlikable that I really didn't care what happened to them in any given scene. That made it difficult enough to enjoy, but what drove me crazy about the story was the totally unbelievable motivating factor that drives the primary antagonist. I can suspend an awful lot of disbelief to enjoy a thriller, but that was just too much for me.

Was this recorded in a public library?
Revisado: 03-14-17
I made it through this audiobook through sheer force of will. The narrator whispers his way through the entire book as if he's recording in a public library or trying not to wake the baby. VERY irritating and distracting! I hoped the storyline would progress to the point where I would no longer be bothered by the vocal delivery, but it never even came close.

Who knew the end of the world could be so dull?
Revisado: 01-12-17
I don't want to be unfair to the author, because he really did do a masterful job of capturing the day-to-day minutia of post-apocalyptic life, but too much detail=boring, boring, boring. In my opinion, the author got a bit over-protective of the rich and lively characters he created, but it's possible I've just been overly conditioned to expect action and peril from all of the post-apocalyptic novels I've read.
Scott Brick, as usual, is a masterful narrator.

Historia
Medical-school-dropout police detective Richelle Dadd is...well, dead. But that won't stop her from trying to hold on to her house in a divorce battle with a bitter husband. Or keep her from digging into her own murder, to discover who put the bullet into her heart. Or from coming to terms with her Gypsy heritage. And it certainly won't stand in the way of finding out the reason she's been reanimated as a zombie assassin, no longer in control of her life.

Zombie romance?? Not for me, thanks.
Revisado: 11-16-16
This is the review I wish I would've read before selecting this title:
THIS IS A ZOMBIE ROMANCE NOVEL!!
Romance!
Not just a little romance, mind you. I made it halfway through before giving up, and to that point the storyline seems to be a mix of 70% romance with a touch of murder/mystery and zombies thrown into the mix. If you aren't a fan of romance novels, you WILL (most likely) NOT enjoy this book!
To be fair to the author, I gave the book four stars because I did not want to ruin the ratings based on my genre bias. Based solely on my personal opinion, I would've felt charitable giving it two stars overall (the performance was solid), but who am I to judge a genre I know nothing about?
It's really a shame, too, because the premise of a zombie detective was compelling.

Historia
Suffering from writer's block, novelist Rachel Ames escapes to a lake cabin to calm her mind and regain a sense of herself. The location is perfect. Isolated. Beautiful. Inspiring. It even comes with a good-looking landlord who shows an interest in her. But she can't shake the sense that something terrible has followed her to the lake, something just beyond her consciousness, something out on the edge where the sounds of a raging fire and sirens linger whenever she slows down to listen.
