Romantic Break
Revisado: 01-07-21
This turned out to be a nice distraction from all the real life chaos. This is an unlikely and original love story between a 36 year-old virgin and porn star, Although, the premise is salacious, and does deliver the goods, it takes its time to develop characters and strengthen the romance. Characters and written with care and they are given room to be explored. It was especially interesting to gain an insight on the character's respective identities. The romance was well realized and made sense for the characters involved. The voice actor did a wonderful job balancing the characters with their different accents and emotions. Historia
Meet Haskell Hodge. At 16, he’s already garnered some fame as a former child actor and star of a popular cereal commercial. But that doesn’t do much for him when he’s dumped at his aunt’s house in the suburbs of Los Angeles to face an assortment of neighborhood bullies. He thinks he might be gay. In fact, he could be the only gay person in the valley, maybe on the entire planet. Even if he does manage to find a boyfriend, their relationship would have to be secret and invisible.

Sweet coming of age
Revisado: 08-10-20
Haskell Himself is a quiet sweet coming of age novel that packs an emotional punch. The story follows Haskell through his journey of self discovery. As a gay man myself, I found several of Haskell's discoveries and explorations relatable. He is a grounded character that is going through what many of us have or are going through. This excels in its execution. The meditation of the character. All events unfold organically and effectively. The ultimate end leave a little to be desired. Although, this is meant to be part of a series. Hence, this is understandable. The audio recording is impeccable. The voice actor juggles the characters effectively and portrays Haskell in all his angsty glory well. I was given this free review copy at my request and have voluntarily to write this review.

Historia
When you’re competing, the last thing you should do is fall in love...especially with your rival. Wren turned up out of nowhere and now he’s my boss...kind of. He’s also a straight, closed-off, emotionless icicle. Who cares if he’s also drop dead gorgeous, with eyes you could get lost in? Tom is beautiful, colorful, strong, creative, and my eyes can’t stop following him everywhere he goes. He also works for my parents, which means he’s off limits. That, and I haven’t told them that I’m bi yet.

More Passionate than Before
Revisado: 06-11-20
Like the first of the series, this sequel had me consistently wanting to get back to listening to the story. I had my headphones playing this book every chance that I got. While I enjoyed the previous entry, the sequel is an overall improvement. The narrator feels more confident and assured. He did an incredible job with the characters. Particularly, with the two leads. The story flows well and leaves little to no dead space. It's beginning to end romance. The characters feel more realistic and their problems are less predictable and more relatable. As a result, the romance is far more enticing and the intimate scenes are more steamy. I am looking forward to more in the series. If story keeps progressively getting better, I cannot wait. How to Catch Feels
Revisado: 05-01-20
This is a light read. It's a feel good romance with low stakes. Once I began listening to this book, I could not stop. The romance was palpable and the narrator did a wonderful job conveying the dialogue and doing the different accents. This will definitely have you craving romance. I do wish that the stakes were a little higher or that the plot was a little bit less straightforward and predictable. Alas, the book does what it is meant to do and it does it well. MPREG Fantasy
Revisado: 01-22-20
When first requesting this title, I expected a steamy and angst filled story between vampires and werewolves. What I got was a that and a little bit more. Prior to this book I had not been aware of the MPREG subgenre. Once I accepted the MPREG storyline, I grew to view story as mostly engaging and entertaining. The plot is predictable and simple but the energetic writing makes up for this fact. The narration was serviceable. Unfortunately, the narrators voice would crack often in distracting ways and distinguishing between characters would become difficult. I enjoyed the story and it feels like a good introduction to a subgenre and series of books that I might continue to enjoy. Pitch-black entertainment
Revisado: 11-12-19
I first signed up to become an Audiobook Boom member several months ago. I have perused the audiobook options every so often and have sought out something that perked my interest. The first book that I asked to read was Lovesick. I was given this free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. When I downloaded the book I was scared to press play. The cover and the synopsis for a long while begged me to turn away and listen to something lighter instead. I was dreading allowing something like this disturbing into my system. Eventually, the morbid curiosity that led me to choose this book was what allowed me to press play and listen to the entirety of the book. The book's general plot revolves around a man who decides to act drastically after his girlfriend's infidelity. The book is fortunately and unfortunately exactly what is promised on the box. The story revels in the grotesque and perversions of its characters. The voice actor works perfectly as the lead character. Leaning into the grimy aesthetic of the book and allowing the characters to breathe and be as unlikeable or as desperate as the plot needs them to be. At first, this made me uncomfortable but once I began to view the story as a pitch-black comedy and began to decipher some of the author's intentions I began to enjoy the book and allow it to seep into me disturbing me and making me chuckle with its absurdity. At one point I even craved for the plot to become more devilishly perverse. Where the book lost some points for me is that I never felt that it never subverted my plot expectations. This is the result of not fleshing out other characters as much as the lead and giving them little to do. The book is focused on the lead character's arc and did not give me a more fully-formed world. I really wish to have known more about the female character's thoughts and feelings throughout the book and would have liked more action from her, as the plot would permit. Overall, once I accepted this book as a dark comedy, I did not regret the rollercoaster ride that is Lovesick.
