Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

A little wandering, but new theories
Revisado: 12-27-24
I love that someone challenged the narrative of the ambitious Bugliosi, but the book does meander to a great degree. I enjoyed the new information, but it was buried in a confused narrative.

Historia
Narrated by Emmy Award–winning actor Martin Sheen, The Home Front: Life in America During World War II takes listeners into the lives of Americans at home—part of the Greatest Generation—who supported the war effort and sustained the country during wartime. The war brought immediate, life-changing shifts: the rationing of meat, dairy products, and sugar; an explosion of war-related jobs; and, despite mixed signals, a greater role for women working outside the home.

That apparently nothing good happened on the home front during WWII
Revisado: 11-25-23
Just all about what was wrong at home during WWII. Very little about the amazing Arsenal of Democracy. Nope. Just more promoting the idea that nothing good happened in the past and everyone was either an oppressor or oppressed.
that couldn't be more untrue. Tens of millions escaped poverty and joined the Middle Class because of the War.

Historia
If there had been no cover-up of Robert Kennedy's complicity in the murder of Marilyn Monroe in 1962 and he had been prosecuted based on compelling evidence at the time, the assassination of JFK by Bobby's enemies would not have happened - changing the course of history and preventing the murder of media icon Dorothy Kilgallen.

Rambling and repetitive.
Revisado: 02-09-23
Rambling and repetitive. Very derivative of other works. Narrative thread is meandering.
And what dafuq does Trump have to do with any of this. The rant tangent is ridiculous and unprofessional.

Historia
They were called Easy Company, but their mission was never easy. Immortalized as the Band of Brothers, they suffered huge casualties while liberating Europe in an unparalleled record of bravery under fire. Dick Winters led them through the Battle of the Bulge, the attack on Foy, where Easy Company reached its breaking point, and finally into Germany, by which time each member had been wounded. Outside Munich, they liberated an S.S. death camp and captured Berchtesgaden, Hitler's alpine retreat.

Strange pronunciations
Revisado: 08-03-21
It's unsettling to hear a reader drop from English into 'native' pronunciations of foreign words. I keep wondering if I accidentally hit the French translation button far too often on Audible's WWII books. Strangely, they don't do that on German words.... Is it a condescending patrician affectation? Dunno, but it's annoying

Historia
Easy Company, 506th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, was as good a rifle company as any in the world. From their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942 to D-Day and victory, Ambrose tells the story of this remarkable company, which kept getting the tough assignments. Easy Company was responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. Band of Brothers is the account of the men of this remarkable unit.

Little more annoying than trying to pronounce every foreign word like you're a native speaker. The Anglicized pronunciation is just fine for the non-pretentious among us.

Historia
Believe it or not, America's fascination with celebrity culture was thriving well before the days of TMZ, Perez Hilton, Charlie Sheen's breakdown, and allegations against Woody Allen. And the stars of yesteryear? They weren't always the saints that we make them out to be. Part biography, part cultural history, the stories contained in this book cover the stuff that films are made of: love, sex, drugs, illegitimate children, illicit affairs, and botched cover-ups.

Rehash of common stories

Never lives up to the title. Every story is mild and pedestrian, a retread of previously-published accounts. Rather disappointing.

Historia
In the heart of America, a metropolis is quietly destroying itself. Detroit, once the richest city in the nation, is now its poorest. Once the vanguard of America’s machine age - mass production, automobiles, and blue-collar jobs - Detroit is now America’s capital for unemployment, illiteracy, foreclosure, and dropouts. With the steel-eyed reportage that has become his trademark and the righteous indignation that only a native son can possess, journalist Charlie LeDuff sets out to uncover what has brought low this once-vibrant city, his city.

Historia
Authors Robin Moore and Michael Lennon team up in this exciting new novel to tell the "fictionalized" stories of the men who have risked it all for the U.S.A.: the Green Berets. They take us from firefights on the Cambodian border during the Vietnam War to the streets and alleyways of Iraq today. They teach us what it was really like to patrol the streets of Mogadishu in the days of Black Hawk Down. They show the horror that was Saddam's Iraq during the first Gulf War. They take us to the moonscape that is Afghanistan in search of the Taliban. The Wars of the Green Berets continues the saga of Moore's classic The Green Berets, revealing more than a few tantalizing secrets and anecdotes for the first time.

Like it was written by a third grader
Revisado: 11-10-14
What would have made The Wars of the Green Berets better?
For one thing, more than a collection of simple housekeeping stories. Most of the stories are a couple minutes long, have nothing to do with Special Forces, and are likely to do more with boredom in a war zone than any action.
Has The Wars of the Green Berets turned you off from other books in this genre?
Well, certainly by these authors. No more than a money run for Moore.
What didn’t you like about Tori Kamal’s performance?
The mispronunciation and the explanation of acronyms that made the nomenclatures actually longer than if he'd used their full formal name.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
