Historia
We know that they prayed, sang, and wore long robes, but what was it really like to be a monk? Though monastic living may seem unimaginable to us moderns, it has relevance for today. This book illuminates the day-to-day of medieval European monasticism, showing how you can apply the principles of monastic living, like finding balance and peace, to your life. With wit and insight, medievalist and podcaster Daniele Cybulskie dives into the history of monasticism in each chapter and then reveals applications for today.

The narrator is excellent - for elementary school students. I learned bit of interesting trivia about medieval Christian monastic life, so it was worth the $5. Still, not representative of the title.

Historia
From the Gilded Age until 1914, more than 100 American heiresses invaded Britannia and swapped dollars for titles - just like Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham, the first of the Downton Abbey characters Julian Fellowes was inspired to create after reading To Marry An English Lord. Filled with vivid personalities, gossipy anecdotes, grand houses, and a wealth of period details-plus quotes and the finer points of Victorian and Edwardian etiquette - To Marry An English Lord is social history at its liveliest and most accessible.

Useful, but dull and poorly executed
Revisado: 05-11-23
This gives a useful overview of the cultures at play, but the reader is so distracting, I can’t say it was an enjoyable listen. Her pronunciation felt forced and cadence unnatural.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Fantastic

Really a treat to listen to the creator who also happens to have a soothing voice and clear enunciation.
The material is indispensable, I believe, for everyone, whether having diagnosed trauma or not.

Historia
The Upanishads are often considered the most important literature from ancient India. Yet many academic translators fail to capture the work's philosophical and spiritual subtlety, while others convey its poetry at the cost of literal meaning. This new translation by Vernon Katz and Thomas Egenes fills the need for an Upanishads that is clear, simple, and insightful - yet remains faithful to the original Sanskrit.

Get Someone Who Doesn’t Slaughter Sanskrit
Revisado: 05-14-19
This is an exciting find on Audible. I can’t say much for the reader’s (Tom Perkins) pronunciation of Sanskrit words. I find it cloying and wonder why anyone would find it acceptable to pay for that level of ineptitude or laziness. But it has Egenes’ stamp of approval which earns high marks with me. I seriously can’t even understand some of his references though. 😕

Great story, well told
Revisado: 08-12-18
Interspersed with historical references as well as heartfelt personal tales, this audiobook is about not just one person’s Badwater race, but many people’s struggles through the hottest place on Earth. He describes intimate details of the mental fortitude and physical strain required to do this race.
I only wish he had hired a professional to read it. The halting rhythms in his rendering lack flow and I found them quite distracting.
