This was so practical and easy to implement. Imagine, living according to the way the Creator made us to function--novel idea! It's so easy to let modern conveniences run our life, but getting back to how we were created is really the key to contentment and health.

Great cast of characters and a plot that brings to mind much of the turmoil around us. Lots of issues that a teen can relate to, but still relevant for adults. Can't wait for the next two audiobooks! Hurry :)

Not as good as the authors first work. Felt like a lot of things fell conveniently or easily in place for the sake of the plot.

Enjoyed book two as much as book one! This is a great series for middle grade/young adult guys in particular. But as a middle-aged female, I still really enjoyed it! Will make a great read aloud for a family as well.

Well written characters that you will either be cheering for or jeering for. I took one star off due to more internal thought then seemed necessary. Occasionally tedious.

Also, one scene toward the end of the book where time is excruciatingly crucial, there was a lot of talking and reminiscing going on that did not seem realistic to the pressure of the moment.

But those are very minor things in the scheme of an interesting and relatable world, where there are familiar things and technologies, and backwards and medieval things like gladiators and slavery.

The story will definitely provide an impetus for many good and healthy conversations about character without being preachy or trite.

A fun and refreshingly clean read that has terrific world building and heartwarming characters.

Set in a world where slavery is the norm, but technology and life is the same as our own, the story follows a young man who learns to hone his skills as a fighter to overcome his own fears and to right some family wrongs.

Though the plot develops slowly, it did not drag. Instead, it allowed you to get to know the main character, Benson, very well. But I would have liked a little more intrigue along the way, hence the four stars.

I thought the narrator captured the characters perfectly! He really made the story come to life. Thank you Annie Douglas Lima for writing an excellent book, that touches on some difficult subjects with truth and grace!

I really enjoyed An Anchor on her Heart. Author Patricia Lee brought both the characters and setting to life! Loved hearing descriptions of all my childhood beach haunts as well as learning about the fishing season in Alaska. Good stuff! Also, as a mother of an autistic son, I appreciate stories like this which realistically portray the ups and downs, rewards and challenges, of being the parent of a child with special needs. It isn't always pretty! But it is also totally worth it. Patricia Lee did a lovely job of conveying these things.

Also, the narrator is very easy to listen to. I thought it might bother me that some of the book was from a female perspective and read by a man, but he handled it well and it didn't affect me in the least. The only voice I didn't care for was that of Sydney, the autistic child. She sounded exactly like Mickey Mouse. On the upside, Sydney doesn't talk much since she is autistic, so I only had to hear it peppered a little throughout. Otherwise, it was a great performance by Matt Hicks!

This is a very clean and redemptive story that fans of Christian fiction will enjoy.

I’m on the fence about this book. Performance was stellar, as always with this narrator. But the book itself didn’t quite deliver. There were a lot of beautiful moments and exquisite descriptions, but having a book within the book made it a little tedious at times. It took a while to really take off in a direction, and even then you would run into characters that took a long time to explain things, slowing the story down. The author is brilliant with similes and metaphors, but also uses them everywhere, all the time, and it feels a little much after hours of listening to them. The plot left me questioning the main character a few times, feeling like missed opportunities were conveniently there to keep the story teased out. Overall, interesting but not stellar.

I’m not normally a fan of sci-fi, but I really enjoyed Anna Zogg’s story and felt the world she constructed was very believable. It was enough like our own world to bring it vividly to life, without making me suspend belief to go for something wildly alien.

She drew me into the conflict, both internally and externally, of the main character Aric. Aric was smart, had integrity, and yet still had her flaws and struggles. I did feel like she fell for her assistant a little too quickly, though I assumed that it was inevitable.

Matt Hicks did an excellent job with the audio narrative. The only drawback was that the chapters would often end on a tense, cliffhanger type scene...and then he would state the the next chapter number with very cheery enthusiasm—which feels a bit out of place when you’re listening to more than one chapter at a time.

The other issue I had was with Aric’s name. Though it is certainly a feminine spelling, I know so many male Eric’s, that hearing the word, rather than reading it, continually pulled me out of the story to remind myself that the person being described was female. The book might read, “Aric went outside...” But I would hear “Eric went outside...” This might not be a problem for others, but since I know several Eric’s, I continually struggled to contrive and attach a young woman’s face to the “Eric/Aric” of my imagination. I’m certain Anna never imagined that would be an issue, however!

Still, I really enjoyed it. Such an excellent story with detailed and believable world building, brought to life with terrific narration!

I’ve loved all of this series, but this book has been a little less loved. So much tension and battles and continuous fighting, necessary to the plot I suppose, but it became tedious after a while. Still looking forward to book four!

I love Richard Spillman’s book, The Awakened, and had already read it on my own. Getting to listen to it on audio brought another layer of depth to the story. Hicks does an excellent job with the many varieties of accents, as well as keeping me on the edge of my seat with his narration skills. I listen to audiobooks all the time and this one I devoured in less than 24 hours! Can’t wait for the next installment in the series.
