Historia
One small handwritten letter, sent from a dark, remote corner of the planet and lost in the system for 60 years, is about to change the entire human race. Outside Denver, Colorado, Joe Rickards stands over a small aircraft wreckage, studying burnt remains still smoldering in a field of freshly fallen snow. He's an investigator for the NTSB, working to carefully roll back the last several hours and identify the cause of the accident. But this time, he can't.

This story leaves you wondering if we really know what we think we know about the world we live in.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I have to admit I got a little choked up at the end when Joe was talking to his wife and daughter. If you haven’t read or listened to any of Michael C. Grumley’s books, this is a good place to start. It’s also read by one of my favorite narrators, Scott Brick. I have enjoyed the book several times.

An overall great telling of a story about genetics
Revisado: 04-07-25
I really like how Michael Grumley evolves his story from one book to the next in this series. I hope he does not stop after book 6. The story is so good, I have listened to the audiobook series several times. Each time I listen to, I pick up on some small detail of foreshadowing that I missed previously. This is such a good series that it’s hard to stop listening to it and crave more.

Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

A retelling . . .

Of the crochety “Scrooge-like” character. I like the way it unfolded and the ending suited the seasonal topic.

Of this book for me is when it ended and I couldn’t find another in the series. Love the chapters, the growth of some of the townspeople, but left me hanging at the end. Will there be another?

Same great characters and narration. One of the main characters - who often presents as shallow and self-indulgent - does a fabulous job of redeeming self while supporting the town.

I wasn’t sure - until the end - which character needed to reside in the Asylum. The twists and turns kept me guessing. I am a fan of long books with good character development and I liked this one!

Woody Bookman hasn’t spoken a word in his eleven years of life. Not when his father died in a freak accident. Not when his mother, Megan, tells him she loves him. For Megan, keeping her boy safe and happy is what matters. But Woody believes a monstrous evil was behind his father’s death and now threatens him and his mother. And he’s not alone in his thoughts. An ally unknown to him is listening.
