Historia
History remembers the Soviets and the Nazis as bitter enemies and ideological rivals - the two opposing totalitarian regimes of World War II whose conflict would be the defining and deciding clash of the war. Yet for nearly a third of the conflict's entire timespan, Hitler and Stalin stood side by side as partners.

Historia
History has tended to measure war's winners and losers in terms of its major engagements, battles in which the result was so clear-cut that they could be considered "decisive". Cannae, Konigsberg, Austerlitz, Midway, Agincourt - all resonate in the literature of war and in our imaginations as tide-turning. But these legendary battles may or may not have determined the final outcome of the wars in which they were fought. Cathal J. Nolan's The Allure of Battle systematically and engrossingly examines the great battles, tracing what he calls "short-war thinking".

Missing important facts and not well researched
Revisado: 02-24-18
The book is not very well researched and it is missing many important historical facts.
For example, it repeats the old German propaganda and myth that the Polish Air Force was destroyed on the ground in the first two days of September 1939.This, of course, is simply untrue. Polish squadrons were deployed to reserve airfields following the mobilization on 30 and 31 August, and played an active role in the campaign till September 17th, when the Red Army invaded Poland from the east and the evacuation order was given.
This book does not even mention the Polish-Soviet War (February 1919 – March 1921). This War was an armed conflict between the Second Polish Republic, the Ukrainian People's Republic, Soviet Russia and Soviet Ukraine over the control of an area equivalent to today's Ukraine and parts of modern-day Belarus. In 1921 Poland won and stopped the Communist Revolution from spreading into Europe. Had Poland lost this war and let the Red Army advance into Europe, then Germany, Hungary, Romania, Italy might have gone Communist.

Missing facts about the Polish pilots
Revisado: 11-06-17
What about the Polish Air Force squadrons and Polish RAF fighter pilots? Another book that
completely ignores these heroes. Missing facts about Polish pilots during Battle of Britain is like modifying history and creating fake history.
The 303 squadron was one of 16 Polish squadrons in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. It was not just the highest scoring squadron (126 kills) during the Battle of Britain, but it had the highest ratio of enemy aircraft destroyed to their own lost.

We need more books like this one. One of the few books that recognizes the Polish, Czech and other occupied nations contributions to fighting the Nazis during World War Two. Today, very few people know that the Polish forces have been the 4th largest Allied army in Europe.

What about Non-British Allied fighter squadrons?
Revisado: 01-09-17
At least 500 Non-British Allied personnel fought Germans in the Battle of Britain. Why are these heroes forgotten and not even mentioned in this book?
Two Polish fighter squadrons No. 302 and No. 303 fought in the Battle. The highest scoring allied pilot of the Battle was Josef František a Czech pilot flying with No. 303 fighter squadron. No. 303 (Kościuszko) squadron was the highest scoring squadron of the Battle of Britain with 126 kills. No. 302 shot down 26 Luftwaffe aircraft during the Battle.
Non-British personnel in the RAF during the Battle of Britain:
Poland 145
New Zealand 135
Canada 112

Belgium 30
Australia 32
South Africa 25
France 14

Historia
Using his own experiences, log books, and correspondence with other U-boat crewmen, Hans Goebeler offers rich and personal details about what life was like in the German Navy under Hitler. Since his first and last posting was to U-505, Goebeler's perspective of the crew, commanders, and war patrols paints a vivid and complete portrait unlike any other to come out of the Kriegsmarine. He witnessed it all, from deadly sabotage efforts that almost sunk the boat to the tragic suicide of the only U-boat commander who took his life during World War II.
