Historia
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

I fell in love with the characters quickly and easily. I cared about them and their story. I cried several times when life dealt them tough blows. I loved the writing style it is very thoughtful and well put together.

Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

I loved the way this book is written, it’s loving and magical! I know some very unexpected type A people who loved this as well. I listened and then had to buy it in print so that I could hold onto the words. I want to hold some of the phasing in my head and bring it out for when I need a “grin!”

Same story, different day
Revisado: 11-07-16
Did you like the void trilogy but missed a few of your favorite characters that weren't dredged up from the starflyer war? Well then check out this rehash of the same old story; complete with the same socioeconomic strife that plagued the void in hamilton's previous series.
In fairness, this book does fit in nicely to the rich world of the commonwealth and was still an enjoyable listen, but I'd say it's far from the best work in the universe that Hamilton has been so diligent to create. Oh well, it won't stop me from reading the sequel!

Historia
"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says ( Publishers Weekly).

Interesting story, poor audio quality
Revisado: 08-29-16
The book was great, but I kept struggling with the way the track was mastered. Lots of transitions from very loud to very quiet and back, which got to be very annoying over more than 40 hours of listening.
Decent characters and plot that spans an impressive number of events without falling apart at the seams

My favorite expanse novella
Revisado: 04-02-16
Of all three novellas that are out as of this review, the churn was my favorite. It's always great to get more context on the universe that our favorite characters live in, and more than any other supplementary work in the series "The Churn" delivers. It's funny how little we actually know about earth in the series without this piece

Interesting book - better first half but a decent finish
Revisado: 09-07-15
I liked the first half much more than the second because of the typical Stephenson "hard-science" fiction style that accompanied the contemporary setting as opposed to musings about the far future

Enjoyable story with brilliant technical descriptions
Revisado: 06-24-15
Stephenson has a great way of explaining very complicated concepts with interested and engaging descriptions or metaphors. This is an especially valuable quality in his writing while going through this book in audiobook form mostly during commutes or while carrying out other tasks because the absolute clarity prevents you from getting lost.
The story was engaging, the characters were imaginative, and the voice is just humorous enough to make a topic that could have been extremely dense rather enjoyable. The narration did much to add to the personas built up in this novel as well. The Heller-esque roar of Shaftoe alone makes the performance and the book worthwhile.
Having read this, I'm moving on to snow crash next. I'm looking forward to more by Stephenson!
