Historia
Tyler, Channing, and Sammy Clauster have descended on their childhood home, with significant others and four-year-old twins in tow, for another good old-fashioned Christmas. Overwhelming holiday magic, as always, comes courtesy of their mom, Claire. They know she’s thrilled to cook, wrap gifts, decorate, accommodate, play games, overprepare every Christmas Eve Eve Eve tradition, and still let Dad be known as the Fun One. It’s her thing, right? Maybe the family should have paid closer attention. Because this year, something is a little off-key - and it’s not just the carols.

Historia
In our unique genomes, every one of us carries the story of our species - births, deaths, disease, war, famine, migration, and a lot of sex. But those stories have always been locked away - until now. Who are our ancestors? Where did they come from? Geneticists have suddenly become historians, and the hard evidence in our DNA has completely upended what we thought we knew about ourselves. Acclaimed science writer Adam Rutherford explains exactly how genomics is completely rewriting the human story - from 100,000 years ago to the present.

I’m not a scientist or a geneticist, but I am very interested and this author made complex topics understandable. Gave me a good start and desire to learn more. Strong narrative and fun as well!

Revisado: 01-30-24
I love Night Vale, but I don’t enjoy all the interruptions of podcasts. So I really love the book. Welcome to Night Vale and It Devours, read them both at least twice.
Please write another sequel from some of the storylines in the podcast!

Criminally, poor narration
Revisado: 01-11-24
I think I would’ve enjoyed the book, but may never know as I couldn’t tolerate the narrator for more than a few minutes and had to give it up even though it was free. My apologies to the narrators feelings, but I don’t know if it was a man trying poorly to talk like a woman, but this person should not be narrating books..

As Will digs into both crimes, it becomes clear that he must solve the original case in order to reach the truth

Only Karin Slaughter could draw me into these stories.
Revisado: 09-30-23
This was such an excellent book. I don’t like to read books with this much violence in them. The violence is never gratuitous, and the stories serve a real purpose, but still only Karin Slaughter, could get me to stay with this. Because along with all that, she gives you amazing characters, people that you recognize and like and buy into and the Will Trent and Sarah Linton books are by far my favorites. There is so much to them individually and in their relationship with each other. And in spite of the storyline, Karen Slaughter always manages to put in really funny things and observations that you recognizing your own life.
There’s just one thing I ask, please never change your narrator, Kathleen Early is so talented and she is the voice of Will and Sarah and everyone else in the universe. At this point, it would just be too disorienting to hear someone else try to give voice to these characters as someone who listens to Audible’s almost exclusively, I can tell you how important a good narrator is, they can make or break an audible, and I don’t understand why some authors switch in midstream if they have a good narrator already. The stories would still be good if you read them, but they wouldn’t be the same listening to the Audible. I have been a voracious reader, my entire life always having books several books going at once in the last several years, there’s been reasons why I had to start listening to Audible‘s and the wrong narrator, and ruin a book or make it as good or even better. This is a long review but to sum it up, you can’t go wrong with a Karin Slaughter story narrated by Kathleen Early.
(this story got four stars only because in the beginning it was a little confusing, and and too graphic for me, but after reading the next book I realized I had to go back and finish it, and I was so glad I did because it really was an important story and entertaining and funny really picked up and it was a great read,

Binchy just phoned this in, Very disappointing!
Revisado: 07-11-23
Not really, a novel, just a bunch of pat story lines loosely strewn together. Maeve Binchy can do much better and she should have.
No fully developed characters or story, not believable. And I’m sorry to have to say the narrator was not right either, although I’m guessing she put more effort into it, than the author did! I really hate to leave this kind of review, the plot sounded good and I am not against happy endings, even implausible ones, but to me this book felt like Ms. Binchy didn’t respect her readers enough to put any effort in.

One of my favorite Novels, so unique
Revisado: 03-06-23
I loved this novel so much when I first read it 15 years ago. I looked forward to reading it again but this time I read the Audible version. The narrator was so mismatched that he managed to almost completely take out all the beauty and thoughtfulness from the story. Such a disservice to a unique voice in literature! I could barely stand to finish it and wouldn’t if I still had the book itself to read. If you only read this novel in this Audible version I’m not surprised that you wouldn’t care much for it. I would highly encourage anyone to take a little time and then read it yourself. I would also recommend his other novel, The Illumination. I haven’t listened to the Audible version of this one, but it has a different narrator so I’m hoping for better. Often a gifted narrator can not only do justice to the story but occasionally bring out the very best in it. (See The Book Thief, Big Little Lies, or What Alice Forgot for three good examples of brilliant writers paired with gifted narrators). Audible and others. Please stop giving bad or mismatch narrators to good writing!

Like the characters but each book the story was so much the same that I was bored by the time I got to this one. to veer off into the wrong voice for a character and sometimes the voices of the men are just horrid anyway, disappointing.
